Will Smith Planning Comeback with ‘I Am Legend 2’

Will Smith

2022 has gotten off to a rocky start for Will Smith. Pun intended. While the actor may no longer be welcome at the Oscars due to the Chris Rock slapping incident, the actor is getting ready to return to the big screen.

Smith is actively working I Am Legend 2, which is being produced by his company, Westbrook Studios. Fans can expect Smith to return as Robert Neville, a scientist who is fighting to survive and find a cure for zombies in a post apocalyptic New York City.

The 2007 film, I Am Legend, co-starring Michael B Jordan was a huge success. It made the studios over $585 million at the box office. Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman, who was responsible for adapting Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel for the first film, is also involved with the planned sequel.

Will Smith Remains Involved in I Am Legend 2

I Am Legend 2 is still in early phases. The script is still being written and hasn’t been signed off on yet. Will Smith remains attached to the project, as Warner Brothers hasn’t pushed back on Smith’s involvement.

“The script is being written mentioning his character and as of now, Will remains attached to the project.” a source tells The Sun.

While Will Smith news has been limited as of late, Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith addressed the Oscar slap incident in a recent episode of her Red Table Talk series, saying, “About Oscar night. My deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile.”

“With the state of the world today, we need ’em both, and we all actually need one another more than ever.” Pinkett Smith continues. “Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years — and that’s keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”

Will Smith also made a statement regarding the incident on his Instagram the day after the Oscars, stating, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.”
