Sam Heughan Teases A Strong Opening for ‘Outlander’ Season 7

Sam Heughan

With the Season 6 finale of Outlander airing just over a month ago, fans are already longing for Outlander Season 7, which is currently in production in Scotland. Series star, Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, recently opened up about what’s to come in the new season.

When we last saw Jamie and Claire, played by Caitriona Balfe, things weren’t going well. Claire was being arrested for murder, Jamie had been separated from her, and the Revolutionary War is now officially underway.

“America really is in sort of turmoil. There’s revolution, and Jamie and Claire are separated,” Heughan reveals to Us Weekly. “There’s also the prophecy of Jamie and Claire’s death, you know, that they’re supposed to die in a fire. There’s just so much going on.”

Where Will Outlander Season 7 Pick Up?

Fans can expect a strong opening to the new season according to Sam Heughan. “We pick up shortly after with the end of last season, which is a great cliffhanger,” Heughan teases.

“We really start off with a bang. The first couple episodes are really strong, and that’s as far as we’ve got shooting-wise,” he continues. “But I know there’s so much that we are still about to get to. Not only that you’ve got a lot of new characters coming in or characters that I think are anticipated by fans – including, of course, Jamie Fraser’s son – but a bunch of new characters as well.”

Charles Vandervaart as William Ransom

We haven’t seen Jamie’s son, William Ransom since he was a child. However Season 7 will be bringing in an older William, played by Canadian actor, Charles Vandervaart. Vandervaart has most recently starred as Robbie Hobbie in Holly Hobbie and Liam Tufeld in Lost in Space.

Outlander Season 7 William

We’ll have even more episodes in Outlander Season 7 to unpack this story, which is based on the seventh book in Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling book series. While Season 6 was cut short to just eight episodes, Season 7 will have an extra four episodes, for a total of 16 episodes.

The extra episodes are also resulting in a longer production schedule, which according to Balfe will be 13 months in total for the new season.

“We are all in a little way girding ourselves to have the stamina to be able to do that because we will be shooting for 13 months pretty much, which is going to be really intense,” Balfe reveals to Digital Spy.

With production on the new season starting in late March, we can expect that filming will wrap in late April or early May 2023. Though, it’s possible that Outlander Season 7 could premiere before that date. We’ll keep you posted as more news on the new season surfaces!
