Early Life
Quite interestingly, Thomas Cruise Mapother IV was not born on the fourth of July, like the title of one of his most famous movies. He has three sisters, Lee Anne, Marian and Cass.
Cruise did not have an easy childhood. They were quite poor and according to Cruise, his father was abusive, a bully, and a coward. They moved to Canada when Tom was 9 years old and he went to the Robert Hopkins Public School where he started to cultivate an interest in drama. With a lot of moving around, Cruise attended a total of 15 schools, until he graduated high school at the Glen Ridge High School in New Jersey.

Tom Cruise has been married three times. His first wife was actress Mimi Rogers and it lasted 3 years. Shortly after the separation, Cruise married his second wife Nicole Kidman. Together, the powerhouse couple adopted daughter Isabella Jane and son Connor Antony. Unfortunately, Cruise and Kidman divorced after 11 years.

Eventually, though, it would also lead to the couple’s separation as Holmes filed for divorce in 2012.
Career Beginnings
Cruise’s stellar acting career began with a minor role in Endless Love back in 1981. He was 19 years old at the time. Two years later, he played what would become one of his most memorable leading roles as Joel Goodson in Risky Business. However, it wasn’t until he starred in the 1986 action drama Top Gun that he finally had his first of many blockbusters.
The latter part of the 80s brought a string of highly successful movies with interesting roles. He was a glitzy pool player in The Color of Money, a bartending business student in Cocktail, and a war veteran in Born on the Fourth of July. Cruise got to play very diverse roles that really showcased his acting prowess.
