Interview: Justine Wachsberger from New Moon

We had the pleasure of sitting down with the beautiful Justine Wachsberger to talk about her role as Gianna in ‘New Moon’, what it was like working with the ‘Twilight’ cast, and how she got her start in acting. Check it out below!

Have you read the Twilight books?

Justine Wachsberger: Yeah, all four of them.

Had you read them before you got the role?

Justine Wachsberger: I had seen Twilight, and read briefly the first one. After I got the part, I obviously read New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn.

How was that audition process for you?

Justine Wachsberger: It was stressful, but it was fun at the same time. I auditioned for Heidi originally. At the beginning I started getting stressed out when I started hearing casting rumors about who had gotten the part. After about three weeks after auditioning, I got a call saying that I got cast as Gianna.

What was the filming experience like for you?

Justine Wachsberger: It was crazy. I mean it was exciting. I got to go to Vancouver and meet all of the cast members. It was great working with Chris; he’s an amazing director. The whole crew and cast were really nice and down to earth. It was just really fun.

How long were you filming for?

Justine Wachsberger: For a week, approximately.

Does your role follow the character from the book closely?

Justine Wachsberger: Yeah, it pretty much does. Gianna is a complex character in a sense that you don’t really know what her motivations are for working for the Volturi. You don’t really understand her motivations in the book, and I feel like the movie lets that mystery go on.

Did you get to hang out with the cast at all?

Justine Wachsberger: Yeah, we all have really early call times. Even though the tabloids depict it as if they’re going out every night partying, that’s not actually really the case. Yeah, we hang out after the day is done shooting. No big partying. At least not when I was there.

Do you know if you’re going to be back in any of the future films?

Justine Wachsberger: I’m supposed to be back in Breaking Dawn.

Have you heard anything about filming that yet?

Justine Wachsberger: It’s still in talks. It hasn’t been decided yet, the shoot date.

I’m sure they will do it.

Justine Wachsberger: Yeah, it’s all a question about when. Right now they’re really focused on the release of New Moon and Eclipse.

Do you have any memorable moments from set?

Justine Wachsberger: Everything. Just arriving on set and meeting everyone. I think that was really memorable. The set was absolutely amazing.

I know you did some acting at a program with the New York film academy. How did you go from doing that, to doing movies in Hollywood?

Justine Wachsberger: I was actually living in L.A. at that time. I just went there for a summer intensive program. It wasn’t really transitioning. I just went there to study. Once the summer was done, I came back to school.

How did you first start getting roles?

Justine Wachsberger: I took a lot of acting classes in France and then in L.A. I studied at U.S.C. and got a Bachelors in Communication and Theatre. When I was done with school I got an agent and a manager.

Do you have any other projects that you have coming up?

Justine Wachsberger: The Twilight sequel has opened some doors. So, now I’m getting offered a lot of projects, but everything is still in talk. I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do next. You can check me out in Sorority Row next month.

What kind of things do you do in your spare time?

Justine Wachsberger: I like hiking. I go hiking in the morning. Just hang out with friends, go see a movie. I don’t do anything crazy. I do yoga classes.

I know you were raised between L.A. and Paris. How have those different cultures influenced you?

Justine Wachsberger: I just feel like I got a broad understanding of both worlds. I learned from so many other people. Just as a person, being surrounded by French people and the European culture. I traveled a lot through Europe because I was so close to Italy and Spain. I used to travel a lot. I guess I learned a lot from both worlds.

What are your favorite TV shows?

Justine Wachsberger: I loved Harper’s Island. I’m a big fan of True Blood and my guilty pleasure- Gossip Girl.
