Daisy Edgar-Jones Acknowledges ‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ Film Differs from Book

The immensely successful book Where the Crawdads Sing just debuted on the big screen last Friday, and the film’s star, Daisy Edgar-Jones, has come forward acknowledging that the film was “always going to be different”  from the book.

The 24-year-old actress stars in the film, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Delia Owens. Edgar Jones plays the lead character, Kya, a young woman who finds herself caught up in a murder trial.

During recent interviews in promotional for the film, the star notes that the fans should “enjoy” the natural differences between the film and the novel.

“I think the main thing [is] knowing it’s never gonna be exactly how you imagined it. It’s always gonna be different to the book and accepting that and enjoying that difference and allowing yourself to sort of create another angle into a character for an audience.” Edgar-Jones states.

“I do think it’s incredibly faithful to the book. I think you’re really left with the same feeling when the film ends that you’re left when you put the book down.” Edgar Jones tells CBS Mornings. 

“There’s a large amount in this film to cover. There’s a murder mystery, there’s a love story, there’s a survival story.” Edgar Jones continues. “And I think the filmmakers have done such an excellent job at capturing all of those elements and the heart of Kya.”

“There are a lot of books that are referenced in the book, so I tried to read all the books that Kya was reading,” Edgar Jones tells CBS Morning about how she got into character for the role. “And even just filming on location was incredible. I’d never been in an environment like it. For Kya, she has such a love and respect for that environment, so to actually be able to be on location, and not be on a sound stage trying to imagine it all, was so, so helpful.”

How exactly was the environment that she filmed in. The morning show guests asked her about the bugs and humidity during filming, and Edgar Jones admits that was a part of the experience.

“It wasn’t always very comfortable,” Edgar Jones laughs. “But it looked really good!”

“Yeah, it’s bonkers really. It’s really the only way I can describe it,” Edgar Jones admits smiling.  “I didn’t know that Taylor had written a song for the film, but I knew someone had, but they wouldn’t tell me who. So I found out when the trailer came out as well.”
