‘Severance’ Star Adam Scott Joins Marvel’s ‘Madame Web’

Adam Scott

Severance and Parks and Rec star Adam Scott is joining the cast of Sony Pictures’ Marvel’s Madame Web. For those not familiar with the Marvel property, this new project is based on the comic book character of the same name.

Scott, 49, joins Dakota Johnson, 32, who will play the lead role. Also on board for the project are Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, and Tahar Rahim.

While we don’t know what role Scott will play in the film, here’s what we do know.

Marvel’s Madame Web: Everything We Currently Know

So what do we know about the upcoming Marvel project? Sadly, not much at this stage. We know that S.J. Clarkson is directing the movie. And we also know that Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have penned the screenplay.

In the comics, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman (Cassandra Web) connected to a life-support system that resembles a spider’s web. Due to her age and health, Madame Web never actively fought any villains. Her character dates back four decades to November 1980, when she first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210. Web was a clairvoyant as well as precognitive mutant, who, when we first met her, showed up to help Spider-Man find a victim who had been kidnapped.

She was not one of the mutants that lost their power during the Decimation storyline. But she did end up dying after she was attached by Sarah and Ana Kravinoff. Right before her death, she was able to pass her powers of precognition (as well as her blindness) on to Julia Carpenter. Julia went on to become the next Madame Web.

Another fun fact about Web, she is the grandmother of the fourth Spider-Woman, Charlotte Witter.

Insiders have stressed that the project could become something else entirely. However, it’s possible that Dakota Johnson will play the role of Julia Carpenter. The character has been compared to the superhero Doctor Strange, who is played by Benedict Cumberbatch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Dakota Johnson Looks Forward To Bringing Heart To The Film

Johnson recently explained how she wanted to bring elements of “heart” from the smaller projects she has featured into the superhero blockbuster.

“I guess having experience on all tiers of films I can bring maybe some stuff from the little movies to the big movies that I want to see in them, you know? I really love seeing large-scale films that still have heart in them.” The 32-year-old star said.

Johnson also revealed that crew members from her films Am I OK? and Cha Cha Real Smooth will also be involved in the movie.

“People from ‘Cha Cha (Real Smooth)’ and some from ‘Am I Okay?’ are coming on to ‘Madame Web’ with me. It’s cool. It’s fun to be able to start creating a real team of people that make movies.” Johnson adds.
