Personal Life

Joelle Joanie Siwa was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 19, 2003. Her mother Jessalyn is a professional dance instructor and her father Tom is a chiropractor. Her older brother, Jayden, is a vlogger.

Siwa graduated from Roncalli Catholic High School in Omaha. And she is currently working on her college degree.

When it comes to her dating life, Siwa’s first relationship to make the news was with social media celebrity Mark Bontempo. However, the couple split in November 2020, with Siwa noting that the two are still friends.

Dance Career

At an early age, it was already evident that Siwa inherited her mother’s talent and passion for dance. She joined a lot of contests, the biggest of which was Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, a reality TV dance show produced by Abby Lee Miller. Siwa finished in the Top 5, making it to Week 9 before getting eliminated.

In 2014, Siwa auditioned for Miller’s ALDC competitive dance team and was accepted the following year. Then, she began appearing on Dance Moms along with her mother Jessalyn. Soon, she started to record dance videos that she would put up on her YouTube Channel.

Music and Acting

Siwa released her first single Boomerang and I Can Make U Dance for digital download in May 2016. Boomerang was extremely popular right away, garnering more than 950 million views and more than 5 million likes. The song addressed the topic of online bullying. It was also the reason why Vivid Seats called Siwa the Breakout Artist of the Year in 2018.

Soon after, Siwa released a series of other singles. These include the tracks Kid in a Candy Store, NonStop, Hold the Drama, Only Getting Better, and many more. In 2017, Nickelodeon signed her as one of their regular stars. She then became known for playing the part of Victoria Martin in Blurt and for appearing in Lip Sync Battle Shorties alongside Nick Cannon.

YouTube Channel

Since she started appearing on reality TV, Siwa has already maintained her own YouTube channel. As she became popular, her videos got more views and likes, and her channel got more followers. As of this writing, her channel has over 12 million subscribers.

Most of her content is her own dance and music videos. There are also plenty of funny and cute posts that all get hundreds of thousands of likes. In 2018, Siwa won the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award for Favorite Musical YouTube Creator.

It’s estimated that Siwa’s YouTube channel could bring in as much as $15 million annually, and with over 3.8 billion views, YouTube alone is one of the biggest contributors to JoJo Siwa’s net worth overall.

“YouTube is what I’m invested in. Youtube is my life. I love Youtube,” Siwa told Forbes.

Bow Ribbon Sales

There is no question that the TV appearances and concert tours definitely contributed to JoJo Siwa’s net worth. But a more interesting source of income was Siwa’s hair bows, which she sold through the fashion company, Claire’s. Young girls were all about the bows, so that they could sport the same look as their idol. According to an interview Siwa did with Forbes, she has sold over 80 million of these bows worldwide.

With the price ranging from $5 to $6 per bow, a conservative estimate would be around $400 million in bow sales. And while it hasn’t been verified exactly how much Siwa earns per sale, regardless of the percentage, it’s still a sizable amount of profit!

The biggest market for Siwa’s hair bows was school-age girls in the United Kingdom. However, the fad became so big that some schools ended up banning kids from wearing them. Apparently, it was getting to be distractive and a source of peer pressure.

Following the success of the bows, Siwa eventually entered into a collaboration with J.C. Penney. She started a line of other accessories, home décor and even a doll that looked like her. Siwa also later included children’s books among her merchandise.

She definitely could afford to splurge on a nice piece of property. And it was indeed very nice house, as could be seen in the YouTube video tour of the home that she posted.
