‘Euphoria’ Season 3: News, Details, and Speculation

Euphoria Season 3

Fans of the hit HBO Max show cannot wait for the release of Euphoria Season 3. By the time the Season 2 finale hit the streaming service, viewers were already impatient for the next installment.

So how long will we have to wait for the next season? Who will return to continue their complicated storyline? And what does creator Sam Levinson have in store for us next?

Let’s talk everything we know about Euphoria Season 3.

Euphoria Season 3 Production

A post to Instagram confirmed during Season 2’s release that Euphoria Season 3 got the go ahead from HBO Max. Viewers didn’t need to stress that Season 2 would be the end of the series. They only needed to stress about the events of Season 2 itself.

Vice President of HBO programming Francesca Orsi stated, “Sam, Zendaya, and the entire cast and crew of Euphoria have taken season two to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form, while maintaining its heart. We couldn’t be more honoured to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into season three.”

But now that Season 2 is completely available on the streaming service, fans want to know when they can return to East Highland High.

For better or worse, Euphoria has rocketed these actors to stardom. Producers are scrambling to get these fresh faces into their films as soon as possible. That makes creating a filming schedule quite difficult.

Zendaya was already busy with a whole host of projects before Euphoria. She has to finish up filming Challengers and start Dune: Part II before she can work on Euphoria Season 3.

Sydney Sweeney only just wrapped filming National Anthem with Halsey. She’ll soon begin filming for Madame Web, a new Sony Marvel film.

Hunter Schafer will join The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Jacob Elordi also has quite a few projects to juggle.

This is all a long-winded way of saying there are no updates on when filming will begin.

Euphoria Season 3 Plot

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson is well-known for rewriting scenes while filming. So what’s to come in Euphoria Season 3 is anyone’s guess: even Levinson’s.

We know for sure that Euphoria Season 3 will untangle the unhinged ending that was the Season 2 finale.

Nate must grapple with the fact that he got his father arrested. Cassie and Maddy have to navigate their complicated frenemy-ship. And will Jules and Rue make up?

Also, what’s up with Nate’s third, secret brother?

Shows like Euphoria can’t last forever. You can’t keep 25 year old Jacob Elordi in high school indefinitely. So Levinson will have to answer these burning questions soon or not at all.

Over the past few seasons, Cassie has grown darker. Sydney Sweeney wants to see just how twisted she can get. Sweeney said, “There was a bit of Cassie that I got to play with when she started saying that she’s crazier than Maddy in a scene with Nate. And she kind of got a little more evil and dark and serious, and not so frantic. I would love to play with more of that streak within herself.”

And what about Rue? Zendaya spoke of her character, “Rue wants to be here and it’s up to her now. I really hope that we can explore her life in the future, closer to the other side and her sobriety journey… We carried her all the way to hopefully what is rock bottom and a dark moment, and hopefully by the end leave with a sense of happiness and joy that there is hope for her in the end.”

Euphoria Cast

All of the essential characters are expected to return for Euphoria Season 3. Zendaya will of course return as Rue. Could there really be a show without her? Casey Bloys confirmed with TVLine that she would be back, putting rumors of her character’s death to rest.

We’re hoping that maybe her star power on the show will get her very famous boyfriend involved as well. We love seeing Tom Holland and Zendaya appear together as Spider-Man and MJ, so of course we want to see them on Euphoria Season 3 together.

Zendaya has told reporters they have talked about giving him a cameo or walk-on role. She said, “He supported me through the whole season…You know, we joke about sneaking him into the background and seeing if someone can spot him.”

We expect Hunter Schafer to return as Jules, Jacob Elordi as Nate, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Barbie Ferreira as Kat, and Algee Smith as Chris. We’ll also see Sydney Sweeney return as Cassie, Maude Apatow as Lexi, Storm Reid as Gia, Nika King as Leslie, Austin Abrams as Ethan, and Colman Domingo as Ali. Additionally, we’ll see newcomer Dominic Fike from Season 2 appear again as Elliot.

Potential Returning Cast: Characters in Jail

But what about Eric Danes as Cal Jacobs? In the Euphoria Season 2 finale, we saw him get arrested. Will he make it back for the next season?

When Variety asked Danes if he’d come back, his answer was simply, “Oh, of course.” He then explained that, “There’s gonna be redemption. I mean, that’s the trajectory he’s on. I can’t imagine Cal’s life from solitary confinement. It’s tough to work Cal into the storyline when he’s behind bars.”

Cal is not the only one to end Euphoria Season 2 imprisoned. Angus Cloud’s character Fez also got arrested.

However, the evidence against him doesn’t make it seem like he’ll get out of prison for a while. Will other characters visit him in jail? Or will we only see him in the hallucinatory montages Euphoria is known for?

Chloe Cherry’s Faye also got arrested. But Cherry has hope that her character will get redemption as well. She spoke to Variety, saying, “I think Faye has a story of addiction to tell as Rue does; even though it’s different, I think that they could learn something from each other.”

Euphoria Cast That May Not Return

While we have hopes that these characters will return, we aren’t so sure about Ashtray. His death wasn’t shown on screen, but many think Javon Walton’s character truly is dead.

However, Javon Walton has hope. He thinks that maybe since his death wasn’t shown on screen, he could make it back for Euphoria Season 3.

In EW Interview from March 2022, Walton says that he hopes his character “realizes that drugs isn’t the right path for him. He needs to just focus on himself cause he’s given another chance at life if he is back. So, you know, he needs to make the most of it. He’s a 13-year-old boy in the show, you know, he has a lot to live for.”

One character we do hope will come back is Katherine Narducci as Fezco’s grandma. As Narducci puts it, her character just has to get “out of that dang coma.”

When Could Euphoria Season 3 Come Out? Release Date Speculation

So when will we finally get to experience Euphoria Season 3? While there’s no official release date, we hope we’ll have a shorter wait than last season. There was a significant delay in the production of Euphoria Season 2 thanks to COVID-19.

We’re hoping that the cast and crew won’t have to deal with those delays this time around. If all goes according to plan, we could potentially get Euphoria Season 3 by 2023.

However, Eric Dane, the actor who plays Cal Jacobs, is less optimistic. He vaguely told Variety that, “I just saw something that said 2024, which kind of makes sense.”

We’re hoping that the cast and crew of Euphoria stay healthy during filming and can get the show prepared for a 2023 release date!
