Sam Heughan is set to star in the lead role in the upcoming film Days Gone.
The film, which is based on the popular video game, is currently being developed by the movie division of Sony PlayStation Productions. And Sheldon Turner is adapting the game for the big screen. It’s said that Turner’s script is a a love ballad to motorcycle movies, the bike being Deacon’s lone form of transport.
Days Gone Comes After Uncharted‘s Box Office Success
Plans for Days Gone follows the release of Uncharted earlier this year, which starred Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. The film, which was based on the gaming franchise of the same name, turned out to be a box-office success. Gross ticket sales worldwide were recorded at just over $400 million. And considering the movie’s budget of $120 million, studio executives were quite happy with the film’s performance.
Days Gone was created by Bend Studio and is set in the Pacific Northwest following a devastating global pandemic. It chronicles former motorcycle club member Deacon St. John as he fights to survive in a world of despair and mutated humans in an attempt to find the long-lost love of his life.
Outlander‘s Heughan will take on the role of Deacon.
Turner and Jennifer Klein are producing for their Vendetta Productions company, while Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan are producing for Sony PlayStation Productions.
Heughan, 42, is most well-known for playing Jamie Fraser in the historical drama series Outlander. More recently, he has also reportedly been considered as a successor to Daniel Craig as James Bond. Heughan previously revealed that he would jump at the chance to play 007 if the opportunity arose.
“I don’t think any actor would ever say no. If I was asked to audition for it, I would be delighted.” Heughan reveals.
Heughan previously suggested that it is time for another Scottish Bond to follow in the footsteps of the late Sir Sean Connery.
“I’d be the first Scottish [since Sean Connery]. I think it would definitely be time for another Scottish Bond.” Heughan adds.
Outlander fans surely look forward to seeing Sam Heughan in the upcoming Days Gone. And they would love to see him in the role of 007. However, it’s highly unlikely the actor will add James Bond to his resume. The studios are said to be looking for an actor under 40-years-old to take on the role.
