Jennifer Joanna Aniston was born on February 11, 1969 in Sherman Oaks, California. Her father is John Aniston and her mother is Nancy Dow. Both parents are actors, her father even receiving a Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award recently.
After Aniston was born, the family would move from California to New York where Aniston would attend school. Her parents split around the time she was 9. And sadly, Aniston would have a rocky relationship with her mother in the coming years. She described her mom as being very critical, petty, and unforgiving. Thankfully, the two were able to reconcile towards the end of Dow’s life. Dow would pass away at 79 years old after suffering back to back strokes.
It was at the age of 11 that Aniston started to discover her passion for acting. She went to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan, pursuing her passion. She joined the drama society with Anthony Abeson as her teacher. There, she performed Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov and The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window by Lorraine Hansberry.
Becoming an actress
Jennifer Aniston worked part-time jobs such as waitressing and telemarketing to support her Hollywood dream. She first joined off-Broadway productions like Dancing on Checkers’ Grave and For Dear Life. She appeared in a minor role for Mac and Me in 1988 but was uncredited. A year after, she became a spokesmodel for Nutrisystem on The Howard Stern Show.
Aniston bagged her first TV role in Molloy (1990) and followed the Ferris Bueller TV series which ran from 1990 to 1991. She starred as Jeannie Bueller and appeared in 13 episodes.
Her big screen debut would be in Leprechaun (1993), but this horror movie garnered mostly negative reviews. She also expressed her embarrassment regarding it.
She would appear on several more television shows leading up til 1994 when she joined the cast of the massively popular Friends TV series. Her character, Rachel Green, stole the hearts of fans from the very first episode. With a great cast and fantastic writing, it’s no surprise that the beautiful and comedic story of five best friends was telecast for 10 seasons.
The cast gained worldwide recognition and Aniston won the Primetime Emmy Award for being Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She also won a Golden Globe Best Actress Award in 2003. The Guinness Book of World Records lists Aniston and Friends female co-stars as the highest-paid TV actresses of the time.
Friends earnings and royalties
The six main cast earned around $22,500 per episode during the first season, which contained 24 episodes. This added $540,000 to Jennifer Aniston’s net worth for just the first season of the series. By the third season, fans had completely fallen in love with Rachel’s on/off relationship with Ross Gellar (played by David Schwimmer). And for this season, Aniston would earn $1.875 million, just shy of four times what she earned in season one.
In 2000, the Friends stars signed a contract granting them royalties from reruns. This was a huge contributor to Aniston’s net worth since each cast member reportedly gets up to $20 million per year from this deal. The show itself continues to gain more than $1 billion annually in streaming deals and syndication royalties.
The said contract negotiations allowed the cast members to gain backend points on the sitcom. At that point, only Bill Cosby and Jerry Seinfeld had the same arrangement. Aniston gets 2% of the royalties share, which is still a considerable percentage despite the show having aired 18 years ago.
In total, before bonuses and royalties, each cast member earned about $90 million from the series!
Aniston would return to the big screen in 1996 for She’s the One alongside Edward Burns and Cameron Diaz. She also starred in Picture Perfect (1997), The Object of My Affection (1998) and Office Space (1999).

She also starred in Bruce Almighty as Jim Carrey’s girlfriend, reaching a gross of $484 million at the box office. Next, she would join Ben Stiller in Along Came Polly (2004), which also became a commercial success. In 2006, she would appear in The Break-Up (2006) opposite Vince Vaughn.
Marley & Me, a 2008 comedy drama starring Aniston and Owen Wilson, earned a total gross of over $242 at the box office. She also headlined several films like He’s Just Not That Into You (2009), The Bounty Hunter (2010), and Horrible Bosses (2011).
Her performance in Cake (2014) gained critical acclaim, getting nominations from the Golden Globes, SAG Award, and Critic’s Choice. She also starred in several Netflix projects including Murder Mystery (2019) with Adam Sandler.

In 2006, Aniston purchased a house in Beverly Hills for around $13 million. She later listed the property for $42 million and would end up selling for $38 million.
Aniston also purchased two condos in New York City’s West Village for $7.01 million. She had grand plans of combining the units, one of which was a penthouse, into one massive unit. But after a series of paparazzi issues, she ended up selling the units for a loss at $6.5 million in 2012.
Later in 2012, Aniston purchased an 8,500 square foot Bel Air mansion for $20.97 million. And as of 2022, she still owns the property.

On July 29, 2000, Aniston married longtime boyfriend, Brad Pitt, in Malibu, California. Five years later, the couple would divorce, shortly before Pitt and Angelina Jolie had their first child together in 2006.
In 2015, she married Justin Theroux at their Bel Air estate. Sadly, the marriage would end in 2018, though the two are said to still be friends. Aniston also got linked to other personalities like singer John Mayer and The Break-Up co-star Vince Vaughn.
