Jim Carrey is a Canadian-born actor who came into the world on January 17, 1962, as James Eugene Carrey. His father, Percy, is an accountant, and his mother, Kathleen, is a housewife. Carrey also has three siblings, including John, Pat, and Rita. They lived in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada.

At the age of twelve, his father lost his job, which left the family without a place to live. The family moved into a van, and to make ends meet, the entire family worked shifts as security guards and janitors.

Carrey would often work an entire eight-hour shift after school at the factory close by. He would attend Aldershot School. But he never completed his education here.

Carrey’s mother and father were very much involved in their son’s pursuit of fame. They encouraged his passion. His father would accompany him to comedy clubs in Toronto, and his mother created his suit for his first performance.

Jim Carrey was a natural comedian and impersonator. He started performing as a stand-up comedian at the age of fifteen in comedy clubs in Toronto.

After dropping out of high school, he went off to Los Angeles in the United States to follow his dream of becoming an actor. This is where Rodney Dangerfield hired him as an opening act after seeing his performance at The Comedy Store.

On a budget of $200 million, the film only grossed $138 million in North America. However, it went on to gross over $325 million worldwide.

Dumb and Dumber To

2020 saw the release of Sonic The Hedgehog, which made $320 million worldwide on a $85 million budget. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 might be the last role that fans see Carrey in as he revealed to Access Hollywood earlier in 2022 that he plans to retire from acting following his work in the film.

Though Carrey did leave room for the perfect script, saying, “It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road. But I’m taking a break.”

Jim Carrey’s first wife was Melissa Womer. She was an actress, working as a waitress at the time, whom he met at The Comedy Store in 1986. The couple would marry in 1987. A year after they tied they knot, they had a daughter, Jane. However, in 1995, their marriage ended in divorce.

In 1996, Carrey would marry Lauren Holly. But the couple would divorce not even a full year later.
