Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.   (2022)

Rating: R

Release Date: In theaters nationwide and streaming on Peacock on Friday, September 2, 2022.

Summary: In Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul, Trinitie (Regina Hall) and her husband, pastor Lee-Curtis (Sterling K. Brown), used to be the king and queen of a prominent Southern Baptist Mega Church. However, that was before a major scandal, and now they must rally and put the pieces back before it all goes away.

What to Watch For: The film is based on a 2018 short of the same name from writer/director Adamma Ebo.

Word on the Street: Regina Hall is an eight-time NAACP Image Award nominee. Her last nomination was for her performance in the 2019 comedy Black Monday.

My Take: I have been a fan of Regina Hall since she was on the Ally McBeal TV series as Corretta Lipp. Hall was a cast member on the last season of the show.

Once there, she discovers that the villa she reserved has been double-booked, and she’ll have to share her vacation with a cynical British man (Tom Hopper).

What to Watch For: Kat Graham is best known for her role as Bonnie Bennett in the long-running CW series The Vampire Diaries.

Word on the Street: The actress who plays the character Cassie in the film is Tom Hopper’s real wife.

My Take: I am always up for a good rom-com.

Gigi & Nate   (2022)

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: In select theaters on Friday, September 2, 2022.

Summary: Gigi & Nate is about Nate (Charlie Rowe), who was six weeks away from his first year at college when he suffered a horrible accident, leaving him a quadriplegic. His world seems small and cold in that wheelchair until a unique service animal entered Nate’s life. A small capuchin monkey named Gigi.

What to Watch For: The film is based on a true story.

Word on the Street: The film used a real capuchin named Allie, but sometimes it was necessary to use visual effects. For that, they brought in visual effects artist Scott Anderson, who worked on the Oscar-winning film Babe.

My Take: The impressive cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Josephine Langford, Jim Belushi, and Diane Ladd.

Burial   (2022)

Rating: N/A

Summary: Burial takes place at the end of WWII, where a small group of Russian soldiers are given the task of taking Hitler’s discovered remains back to Stalin in Moscow. Some secrets should stay buried.

What to Watch For: This is the second feature that filmmaker Ben Parker has directed. His first was the 2016 thriller The Chamber.

Word on the Street: Charlotte Vega plays Brana Vasilyeva, a soldier willing to risk everything to complete the mission. Vega is best known for her role as Rachel in the 2017 film The Lodgers.

My Take: I am sad that the late great Diana Rigg, who was cast in the film, died before the film was shot. Harriet Walter replaced her in the movie.

Things go bad when Justin sees that a team of assassins has descended on Eddie’s house, and Justin warns the man of the danger. It’s a move that could cost both of their lives.

What to Watch For: This is that last performance on film of Bruce Willis, who announced his retirement after filming the role of the commander of ‘The Wire Room.’

Word on the Street: The film is directed by Matt Eskandari, who directed Willis in the recent releases Hard Kill (2020) and Trauma Center (2019).

My Take: I will be sad not to see one of my favorite action stars, Bruce Willis, on the screen anymore.
