Kidman, who says she was shy as a child, caught the acting bug at an early age after watching Margaret Hamilton in The Wizard of Oz. Kidman’s early acting credits included a number of Australian films, such as BMX Bandits and Bush Christmas. But it wasn’t until 1989’s Dead Calm, where she was the female lead, that she started gaining more attention. She starred alongside Sam Neill and Billy Zane in the film, which only grossed $7.8 million worldwide on its $10.4 million budget.

In 1990, she starred alongside her now ex-husband Tom Cruise in the sports action movie Days of Thunder. Tony Scott-directed, Jerry Bruckheimer-produced film grossed $157 million worldwide on its $60 million budget. It’s reported that Kidman made $200,000 for the film.

Adding to Nicole Kidman’s net worth is an impressive real estate portfolio. A year after Kidman and Urban married, they bought their first home together in Franklin, Tennessee, for $2.45 million. The 36-acre property included a 5,086 main house and a separate guest cottage. In 2018, the couple sold the home for $2.7 million.

Also, in 2008, Kidman and Urban purchased a second property in Nashville for $3.47 million. This home was in the exclusive community of Northumberland. The couple still owns the nearly 11,000-square-foot home, and they consider it their primary residence.

Nicole Kidman’s first marriage was to Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, who she co-starred in multiple films with.  The two initially met in 1989 on the set of Days of Thunder, and they married not long after, on Christmas Eve 1990.

Within their marriage, which lasted for just shy of 11 years, Kidman and Cruise adopted a son and a daughter, Isabella Jane Cruise and Connor Cruise. However, the couple filed for divorce in 2001 due to irreconcilable differences.
