‘You’ Season 4: Details, News, and Speculation

Netflix You Season 4

You Season 4 has built up quite the fan base over the last three seasons. Whether you love a good serial killer drama, or you’re just a fan of the original Gossip Girl series (Though Penn Badgley plays a pretty different character) , changes are you can’t wait for the next season of You!

With the thrilling end to You Season 3, it’s no wonder that people want to know where Joe is headed next after leaving Madre Linda. With production taking place in a completely different country from the end of Season 3, we’re excited to see who will become Joe’s new mark.

Here’s everything we know so far about You Season 4.

You Season 4 Production

The You Season 3 finale ended with Joe jetting off to romantic Paris to follow his new obsession after murdering his wife, Love. However, it looks like the majority of production took place in London.

Production began on April 1, 2022. And when they began, Netflix shared a post with Penn Badgley on set. Beside him lay a stack of books, including Great Expectations and Vanity Fair. Netflix said, “Joe’s back for a bloody good time. If his book choice tells us anything… our boy might not be in Paris anymore.”

Another exciting development? Penn Badgley will not only star in You Season 4. He’ll direct the season as well. Showrunner Sera Gamble said, “We hired a new director this season. But he seems to know the show really, really well.”

Another detail we know about You Season 4? There was an intimacy coordinator on set. Tati Gabrielle told Glamour UK about how she and Badgley worked together with a coordinator while filming sex scenes.

“It was such an interesting, strange conversation that I’d never engaged in [before]…Like: ‘Is it OK if he touches here? The butt? Can he touch the side of your butt? How about the butt cheek? Are you OK with the side of the boob? Are you OK with one nipple or two nipples?’ Things that I wouldn’t have even thought about if I was in the moment!” Gabrielle explained.

She remembers telling Badgley that she felt nervous about filming intimate scenes. She added that Badgley told her, “‘Oh my God, no, it’s going to be fine. We’ll go through it.’ It ends up being like a dance. You choreograph it all…He said, ‘Just talk to me. Let me know if you feel weird about something, if you’re uncomfortable.’ He was just so helpful and a really, I think, great person to have as an introduction to that, because I felt very safe with him.”

Filming wrapped in August 2022.

You Season 4 Storylines & Theories

While we haven’t gotten much in the way of spoilers for You Season 4 just yet, Badgley has revealed that the season will have a different feel. “The tone is similar but it’s shifting in that there is a different format. We’re using a different format… It’s almost like we’re shifting the genre slightly, and I think it works,” Badgley told Entertainment Tonight.

Perhaps we’ll see him delve deeper into his own trauma. Killing his wife and giving away his infant son certainly must weigh on him in some way. And what made Joe Goldberg the obsessive stalker he is today?

Marienne figured out at the end of Season 3 that Joe was an obsessive murderer. Can she become his undoing? Or will she simply become the next mark?

“On one hand, I would love to see her foil Joe, and then, on the other hand, I’d love to see what it could be like for Marienne to just have a good life. She struggled for so long. And yeah, I want her to have a happy ending.” Gabrielle said.

Only time will tell if Gabrielle got either of her wishes.

We saw Joe leaving for Paris to follow Marienne. Knowing that Gabrielle and Badgley filmed sex scenes, we know Joe will at least spend some of the season fantasizing about her. But since we aren’t following the same format, maybe Joe won’t fixate on her all season. Maybe his obsession will include following multiple people?

He will likely mingle with the elite, rubbing elbows with the likes of Lady Phoebe and Rhys.

When Could You Season 4 Premiere? Release Date Speculation

A release date has not yet been announced for You Season 4. However, since filming wrapped in August of this year, we likely won’t see You Season 4 premiere in 2022. If we follow the timeline set by Season 3, it will take roughly six months for the series to premiere. Hopefully we’ll see the release in February 2023! Nothing says Valentine’s Day like a little serial killer drama, am I right?

Additionally, Netflix’s 2022 Tudum event is scheduled for September 24. So it’s likely we’ll get a tease of the upcoming season – or even a release date as apart of that virtual event.

But will You Season 4 be the last season? Since Netflix hasn’t marketed this as the final season, we would be really surprised if the show didn’t come back for Season 5.  We’ll keep you posted as more details surface!
