‘Gran Turismo’ Movie Casts Orlando Bloom

Orlando Bloom is the latest actor to join Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions’ upcoming Gran Turismo movie. 

The film will be based on a true story. And it will follow a Gran Turismo player whose gaming abilities won him a series of Nissan competitions to become a professional racing driver.

Gran Turismo is an adaptation of PlayStations’ best-selling racing video game series that first launched on consoles back in 1997. The franchise’s  most recent installment, Gran Turismo 7, released earlier this year.

Stranger Things‘ David Harbour and Midsommar star Archie Madekwe are also set to star in the video game adaptation from director Neill Blomkamp, who is best known for his work on sci-fi flicks such as District 9.

Madekwe will play the teenage driver while Harbour stars as the retired racer who teaches him to drive. Bloom, 45, will star as a marketing executive who is selling the sport of motor racing.

Production Schedule

Jason Hall and Zach Baylin have written the script for the film. And production is starting this week in Europe. It’ll be a quick shoot and turn around schedule for the project, which is scheduled to premiere in theaters on August 11, 2023.

PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan are producing along with Doug Belgrad and Dana Brunetti. Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi is an executive producer.

“As one of PlayStation’s longest standing and most beloved franchises, it’s great to be partnering with Columbia Pictures again to bring Gran Turismo to life in an exciting way.” Qizilbash said in a recent statement.

“We can’t wait for audiences to see Neill’s vision of this inspiring true story of gamer turned professional race car driver.” he added.
