‘Bros’ Movie: 4 Reasons You Need to See the Boy Meets Boy Rom-Com

Bros Movie

The movie Bros is a refreshing take on the fairly formulaic romantic comedy genre. It brings all the laughter comedies like Bridesmaids and Forgetting Sarah Marshall do. But it also brings something new to the table. It’s a gay romantic comedy that isn’t afraid to tell a messy, heartfelt, and honest love story. It’s the first gay rom-com rated R from a big studio, and it’s not afraid to shine a light on the fact that gay relationships are, in fact, different than straight relationships.

So why should you see the film? Instead of doing a traditional film review for Bros, I thought I’d put together a list of why you should check out the movie. So here we go.

4. Its a Breath of Fresh Air

With snappy and clever dialogue, Bros is a good example of what the genre has been missing in recent years. In addition, it has well-developed characters who feel true to life, not just like characters from a Hallmark movie, though Luke Macfarlane, who plays Aaron in the film, has starred in several of those as well.

It’s a breath of fresh air to see a film that has characters that actually feel like they’re living a life in the real world and not in the fairytale troupes of this genre.

3. Billy Eichner’s Closing Song “Love Is Not Love”

The closing song that Billy Eichner performs in the film better get nominated for Best Original Song come award season. That’s all I have to say.

The credit for the song actually goes to Billy Eichner, who had the song fully formed before filming. The movie brought in award-winning composer Marc Shaiman to work on the film’s score, and Eichner brought the ballad to him to “put the right stuff underneath it.”

“I think it was 10 minutes long,” Shaiman recalls. So he worked on a way to consolidate the Eichner’s ideas into a way that musically flowed and worked with the film.

2. The Chemistry Between The Two Leads

Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane, who is best known for his work on ABC’s Brothers and Sisters, have palpable chemistry together that translates well on the big screen. From some of their more intimate scenes together to their lighthearted banter to dealing with their emotional baggage, their characters create an on-screen relationship that’s easy for the audience to root for.

Bros is equally entertaining as it is therapeutic, and Eichner and Macfarlane’s performances are the reasons why.

1. It’s A Good Rom-Com

Bottomline as to why you should check out the movie Bros? It’s a good movie. It’s full of laughs, heartfelt moments, and honesty. And that’s what makes a good rom-com.

It is worth noting that it’s not a film for the close-minded. And it is a film that’s not afraid to make fun of itself and its genre. But at the end of the day, it’s smart, charming, sexy, and fun. What more could you want? Whether you’re gay or straight, it doesn’t matter. Bros is a movie that anyone who loves a good romantic comedy will enjoy.
