Matthew David McConaughey was born in 1969 in Uvalde, Texas. His mother, Mary Kathleen, homeschooled him. She was a published author and former kindergarten teacher. His father, Jim, ran an oil supply business and was also drafted by the Green Bay Packers. However, he was released before he ever played a game.

McConaughey also has two older brothers, Michael and Patrick. Michael starred in the Texas Investors Club, on CNBC, and Rooster & Butch, on A&E.

McConaughey did not become interested in acting until after finishing high school. He moved to New South Wales for a year, attending high school there as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student. After finishing high school, he attended the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Radio, Television, and Film.

Matthew McConaughey started his acting career in the 1990s in television commercials. Then, he played “Walkaway Joe” in Trisha Yearwood’s music video for the song of the same name. From there, he played a few minor roles on TV shows, such as Unsolved Mysteries and My Boyfriend’s Back.

While McConaughey’s partnership with the whiskey brand ended in December 2022, the two accomplished quite a bit together since joining forces in 2016.
