‘Pretty Little Liars’ Review: Blood Is The New Black

It seems these pretty little liars can never catch a break! In this week’s episode, limits were indisputably tested. The pressure of figuring out who their new tormentor is, to keeping up with school work, boyfriends, family, and psychotic ex-best friends… It’s all beginning to trickle over the edge.

1. Aria:

I have to admit, Aria’s (Lucy Hale) story during this episode was kind of dull… But I can’t really say anything bad about it, because it was well tied in. Items from Ali’s (Sasha Pieterse) coffin are slowly starting to appear. What else is appearing? None other than Byron Montgomery’s (Chad Lowe) skanky ex-mistress. With her sudden arrival at the school, it brings upon flashbacks. In a flashback after finding a pair of earrings in her father’s office, Aria and Ali decide to trash his office, inevitably forcing the blame on Meredith AKA Life Ruiner. The earrings that Aria placed in Ali’s casket, ended up in her locker after the grave digger incident… Which forced Aria to come clean to her father about his office being trashed. If that’s not horrible enough, she is forced to apologize to the homewrecker who messed up her family in the first place. Awks.

2. Hanna:

I have to say, I feel extremely bad for Hanna (Ashley Benson) this season. She’s stuck trying to make peace of what happened between her and Mona (Janel Parrish). Between her visits with Mona, it has sadly put a strain on her adorable relationship with Caleb (Tyler Blackburn). During this episode, Hanna desperately tries to connect with her seemingly comatose ‘friend’. With a new ‘A’ on her tail, she needs answers. Fast. Towards the end of her visit, she is lucky enough to get a breakthrough. Mona may only mumble a few words, but those words could be the start of finding answers. Does Mona know who ‘A’ is?

Sidenote: Caleb’s jealousy was possibly the best thing to witness ever. First Toby (Keegan Allen), now Caleb… It’s officially a British Invasion. 😉

3. Emily:

Honestly? Emily (Shay Mitchell) is the most adorable character on the show, how could anyone plot against her?! She’s had a tough few seasons, being ultimately marked as the ‘weak’ one. Well, I would be weak too if people planted bracelets made out of teeth in my purse! To top off that disgusting detail, she’s also not doing too well in her studies. She enlists the help of the best tutor ever, Mr. Fitz (Ian Harding), and she’s off to take her test… Given by none other than Ella Montgomery. She’s doing well on her test, until she starts having sudden flashes of what happened the night of the grave digging. What she sees is not really surprising, though. Jenna Marshall. With this revelation, and Toby’s contributing information, the liars finally find out that Jenna can, in fact, see. I’m excited to see where this goes.

4. Spencer:

I love how Spencer (Troian Bellisario) takes up the job of dealing with Garrett. She’s made it clear that she believes in his innocence, but it’s still a far stretch from her mother believing it. Mrs. Hostile Hastings shows her distaste for Spencer’s visits to Garrett, but it’s completely okay for her to not only visit, but to actually defend him in court? This decision is definitely strange, and it brings up many questions. Could she be doing it as a favor to Melissa (Torrey DiVitto)? There is definitely more to be discussed with this, and it really does have me curious.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve actually disliked an episode of PLL. This series is the definition of awesome. It’s clear to say that season three in definitely off to a fantastic start. Many questions are already rising, and I have a feeling that a few of our secondary characters will have a very tough time this season, especially because of some of the choices made in, ‘Blood Is the New Black’. It may only be the very beginning, but I already have high hopes.
