Christina Ricci Calls Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday “Incredible”

Wednesday

Christina Ricci is getting fans hyped for the premiere of Netflix’s Wednesday, saying that audiences will be “freaked out” by how good Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday Addams is.

“The whole cast is amazing. Jenna’s so incredible on the show. She’s like, people are just going to freak out about how good she is… you know, I have a lot of, like, obviously, like, so much love and attachment to the Wednesday that I played and those movies. And so be asked to be part of the new iteration was really meaningful to me.” Ricci says during a recent interview with Extra.

Ricci, 42, starred in the iconic role more than three decades ago in 1991’s The Addams Family. With a budget of $30 million, the movie was a success, grossing over $113 million worldwide.

The film’s success paved the way for the 1993 sequel, Addams Family Values, which unfortunately bombed at the box office. On a budget of $47 million, the sequel only grossed $48 million worldwide. Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, and Christopher Lloyd were co-starring alongside Ricci in the two films.

When Will Wednesday Premiere on Netflix?

Netflix’s Wednesday will premiere on November 23, 2022, with an eight-episode first season. Jenna Ortega, 20, takes on the lead role, appearing alongside Ricci, who plays Marilyn Thornhill, Wednesday’s schoolteacher.

Tim Burton is also involved in the new series. Burton, who previously worked with Ricci on his 1999 film Sleepy Hollow along with Johnny Depp, not only helped develop the series for Netflix, but he is also directing four episodes of the series.

Ricci also commented on the opportunity to work with Burton again, saying, “Working with Tim again was great.”

Wednesday also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, 53, who plays the family matriarch Morticia Addams, as well as Luis Guzman, 66, as the father of the family Gomez Addams and Fred Armisen, 55, in the role of Uncle Fester.

For those not familiar with the origins of The Addams Family, the property actually started as a comic strip by Charles Addams. Over the years, it has been adapted several times. First, it was a beloved television series in the 1960s, then came several films as well as a few additional tv shows. And, of course, we can’t forget the 2010 Broadway musical starring Nathan Lane.

While we’re no strangers to Wednesday, we are super excited to see how the Netflix series will evolve the character while still honoring the Wednesday we all know and love. Are you excited about Netflix’s Wednesday? Sound off in our comment section below!
