Avatar: The Way of Water  (2022)

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: In theatres nationwide on Friday, December 16, 2022.

Summary: Avatar: The Way of Water takes place after years of peace when a familiar threat returns to finish what they previously started with a new weapon. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his family must now decide whether to stay and fight or run and hide.

What to Watch For: This is the first of four films James Cameron has planned to make about the world of Avatar.

Word on the Street: Cameron had new cameras developed to film the movie and shot so much of the film underwater that the cast had to train how to hold their breath for long periods of time.

My Take: I love that Kat Winslet could hold her breath for almost 7 minutes, giving her the record for free-diving among the cast.

Word on the Street: The film won the UNIMED Award and was also up for the Golden Lion Award at the 2022 Venice Film Festival.

Their partners are suffering from amnesia as a result of brain trauma. Because of their trauma, the people they love are no longer the individuals they fell in love with.

What to Watch For: The film won the Special Jury Prize at the Dinard British Film Festival.

Word on the Street: Co-director and scriptwriter Celyn Jones also plays one of the main characters, Joe, the husband of Sarah (Rebel Wilson).
