Daisy Edgar-Jones is signing on to star as Carole King in the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway show Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.

The announcement of Edgar-Jones joining Beautiful comes just as the project begins filming. The actress, 24, will play the lead role, starring as the four-time Grammy winner.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical ran on Broadway for five years. And when it closed in October 2019, the play had been performed more than 2,400 times. Needless to say, the stage show’s success stirred interest in taking the project to the big screen. The movie has reportedly been in the pipeline for more than seven years since Sony bought the rights to King’s music.

The adaptation of the Tony-winning musical will be directed by Lisa Cholodenko, who also wrote the latest version of the screenplay along with Stuart Blumberg. Additionally, Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, and Paul Blake will be producing the flick. Blake also produced the Broadway play.

Carole King Is Thrilled with Daisy Edgar-Jones Being Cast

Carole King, 80, is aware of the casting news. And she has also released a statement expressing her excitement for Daisy Edgar-Jones.

“Daisy has a spirit and energy that I recognized as myself when I was younger,” King says. “She’s a tremendous talent and I know she’s going to give a great performance,” King adds.

Edgar-Jones most recently starred in 2022’s Where the Crawdads Sing, which is now available for streaming on Netflix.
