Henry Cavill Joins Amazon’s ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Series

Henry Cavill

While Henry Cavill may not be returning to the role of Superman, he is set to star in another project that rivals the amount of nerdiness. And we are very excited about the news!

Cavill, 39, is set to star in Amazon’s upcoming Warhammer 40,000 series. The news comes on the heels of last Wednesday’s announcement that Cavill would not be returning as the Man of Steel, despite that after-credits teaser from October’s Black Adam.

Henry Cavill Not Returning as Superman

“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran. And it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” Cavill said as he shared the news on Instagram. “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.”

“The changing of the guard is something that happens, I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build,” he adds. “I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

The decision comes from DC Studios new leadership, James Gunn and Peter Safran. As we now know that Gunn is writing a new Superman movie and is expected to cast a new actor in the iconic role.

The Warhammer 40,000 Series

However, back to the happy Henry Cavill news! He’s now attached to star in the new streaming series based on the tabletop miniature wargame, which Games Workshop makes. Amazon is reportedly in final negotiations for the rights to the game after a competitive battle for the project.

There are no showrunners or writers currently attached to the series. However,  Vertigo Entertainment is involved as executive producers.

For those not familiar with the Warhammer 40,000 game, it features intricate miniature figures that players can customize and place around a model-constructed battlefield.

The game is, you probably guessed it, set 40,000 years into the future. At that time,  human civilization is locked in a war with aliens and magical beings, with gods and demons figuring into a theological class system.

It’s no secret that Cavill is a fan of the game. He’s even been seen on social media painting figures. But it’s unclear if this project will be Cavill’s next since Amazon has yet to secure the rights and close the deal.

Where You Can See Cavill Next

Fans see Cavill next in The Witcher Season 3 in summer 2023. After that, he’ll be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in the lead role.

Additionally, it’s rumored that Cavill will also star in the upcoming Highlander remake from Lionsgate. As of November 13, 2022, the project is marked as being in pre-production on IMDB Pro.
