8 New Movies Coming Out This Week: ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’ and More!

Wondering what the new movies coming out this week are? Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we have a bunch of films that will be perfect for a date night!

Channing Tatum is going to take his shirt off a time or two. Next, Julianne Moore is going to try to con a rich guy into marriage. Then there’s Alison Brie, who is going back home to possibly rekindle an old flame. Next, there’s Reese Witherspoon who is flying to New York to find love, much to Ashton Kutcher’s chagrin. All that and a realtor who quits her job to become a Dolly Parton impersonator.

Here is the full rundown of new movies coming out this week in theatres, as well as those releasing on the major streaming platforms.

New Movies Coming Out This Week: February 6, 2023 – February 12, 2023

Magic Mike's Last Dance

Magic Mike’s Last Dance   (2023)

Rating: R

Release Date: In theatres nationwide on Friday, February 10, 2023.

Summary: In Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Mike (Channing Tatum), after a business deal that has gone bust is bartending when he meets a woman, Maxandra (Salma Hayek Pinault), who could change his life, again. Maxandra persuades Mike to come to London and do what he does best: dance.

What to Watch For: The film reunites Channing Tatum with director Steven Soderbergh and screenwriter Reid Carolin, who made the first Magic Mike film in 2012.

Word on the Street: Besides Tatum, Caitlin Gerard, who plays Kim, is the only other cast member from the original film to be in this one.

My Take: I loved the first film (not so much the second one), so I look forward to seeing this one.

Sharper

Sharper  (2023)

Rating: R

Release Date: In select theatres on Friday, February 10, 2023, and on Apple TV+ on Friday, February 17, 2023.

Summary: Sharper is about Madeline (Julianne Moore), a woman who sets out to seduce and bag a famous and wealthy financier (John Lithgow). Her adult son, (Sebastian Stan) is a conman known for planning scams that earn big payouts. Set among New York City’s wealthiest bedrooms, bars, and boardrooms, nothing is as it seems in a game for riches and power.

What to Watch For: The script, written by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka, was included on Hollywood’s Black List as one of the best un-produced screenplays.

Word on the Street: The film is directed by Benjamin Caron, a three-time Emmy nominee for his direction of the hit TV series The Crown.

My Take: Who doesn’t want to see two-time Oscar-nominated John Lithgow and Oscar-winner Julianne Moore together in a film?

Somebody I Used to Know

Somebody I Used to Know  (2023)

Rating: R

Release Date: Premiering on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, February 10, 2023.

Summary: In Somebody I Used to Know, Ally (Alison Brie), on a trip to her hometown, meets up with her old flame, Sean (Jay Ellis), and it seems like old times. The only problem, Sean is engaged to Cassidy (Kiersey Clemons), and it’s like Ally is meeting the person she used to be.

What to Watch For: The film is co-written by Alison Brie with the director of the film, Dave Franco, to whom Brie just happens to be married to.

Word on the Street: Franco also directed Alison Brie in his feature film directorial debut, the 2020 film The Rental.

My Take: I love that Dave Franco said the romantic comedies of the 80s and 90s inspired the film.

Your Place or Mine

Your Place or Mine  (2023)

Rating: PG-13

Release Date: Premiering on Netflix on Friday, February 10, 2023.

Summary: Your Place or Mine is about Debbie (Reese Witherspoon) and Peter (Ashton Kutcher), who are best friends but live on opposite coasts. Peter is headed to LA and convinces Debbie, a single mom, that he will take care of her kid, Jack (Wesley Kimmel), while she travels to New York City and takes a vacation in his apartment. Peter is about to find out that taking care of a kid is hard, made more challenging when Debbie meets someone in New York.

What to Watch For: The film is from filmmaker Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and created the award-winning TV show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Word on the Street: The cast includes Jesse Williams, Tig Notaro, Steve Zahn, and Zoe Chao.

My Take: I am always ready for a rom-com starring Reese Witherspoon.

At Midnight

At Midnight  (2023)

Rating: R

Release Date: Premiering on Paramount+ on Friday, February 10, 2023.

Summary: At Midnight is about Sophie (Monica Barbaro), a world-famous actress who has been dating another famous star for five years. And they are starring in a superhero movie together. When she catches him cheating on her on the set, she breaks up with him. At the hotel the cast is staying at, she meets Alejandro (Diego Boneta), who works at the hotel. And these two are destined to begin secretly meeting ‘At Midnight.’

What to Watch For: Diego Boneta is best known for his role as Luis Miguel in the TV series of the same name and his role as Adan in last year’s Father of the Bride.

Word on the Street: The cast includes Casey Thomas Brown, Catherine Cohen, Fernando Carsa, and Whitney Cummings.

My Take: I love that this romantic film is being released right before Valentine’s Day.

Consecration

Consecration  (2023)

Rating: R

Release Date: In select theatres on Friday, February 10, 2023.

Summary:  In Consecration, after the alleged suicide of her brother, the priest, Grace (Jena Malone), travels to the remote Scottish convent where he fell to his death. There she discovers that the Church’s account makes little sense and that the convent has a deadly and disturbing past.

What to Watch For: The movie is from filmmaker Christopher Smith, known for his award-winning films Triangle (2009) and Severance (2006).

Word on the Street: Danny Houston, who plays Father Romero, is having a year. Consecration is one of three films he is in releasing in 2023.

My Take: I am always ready for a good horror film on a creepy Scottish coast.

The Blue Caftan

The Blue Caftan  (2022)

Release Date: In select theatres on Friday, February 10, 2023.

Summary: The Blue Caftan is about Halim (Saleh Bakri), a tailor who runs his business with his wife, Mina (Lubna Azabal), who has been sick and creating enormous bills that the couple is struggling to pay. To help ease the burden, Hailm hires an apprentice, Youssef (Ayoub Messioui), to help. Youssef brings to light something Hailm has kept hidden from his wife, and it’s about to come out.

What to Watch For: The film has been a big award winner on the film festival circuit, including the FIPRESCI Prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

Word on the Street: The film was the official submission of Morocco for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category of the 95th Academy Awards in 2023.

My Take: The film is at an outstanding 94% on Rotten Tomatoes with over 15 film critic reviews.

Seriously Red

Seriously Red  (2022)

Rating: R

Release Date: In select theatres on Friday, February 10, 2023.

Summary: In Seriously Red, Red (Krew Boylan) is a realtor who isn’t happy with her life. Red quits/gets fired from her job and discovers that she has a genuine talent; she is an amazing Dolly Parton impersonator.

What to Watch For: The film was up for the Grand Jury Award at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival.

Word on the Street: Krew Boylan also wrote the script.

My Take: Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale (married in real life) are in the cast, with Cannavale playing Red’s manager.
