Steven Yeun Joins the MCU for ‘Thunderbolts’

Steven Yeun

The Walking Dead‘s Steven Yeun is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The news has been confirmed that he has signed onto Thunderbolts.

While it’s currently unclear what role Yeun, 39, will play in the upcoming film, insider sources suggest it could be a significant role. He’s certainly in good company with the cast, which also includes Harrison Ford, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Olga Kurylenko.

Thunderbolts is currently in pre-production. And filming will likely begin soon, seeing as how the film has already announced a release date of July 26, 2024. The movie will be directed by Jake Schreier, best known for directing 2015’s Paper Towns. And the script is being penned by Eric Pearson, who wrote 2021’s Black Widow.

Not much is known about the plot of the film yet. However, we do know the comics revolve around a group of villains sent on missions commissioned by the government.

Steven Yeun’s Career Post-Walking Dead

Steven Yeun, who played the beloved character Glenn in the AMC series The Walking Dead, has been no stranger to the big screen as of late. His performance in 2020’s Minari earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Additionally, he starred in last summer’s Nope from director Jordan Peele.

Yeun is also expanding his career in Hollywood to include executive producing, with two additional projects in the works. First, he’ll be an executive producer on A24’s Mason for Showtime. The project, which is a comedy, follows the story of Nathan, who is often misunderstood as “Mason,” as he looks for a connection in a noisy world.

Yeun will also serve as EP on Peacock TV’s crime-drama series, The Islands. Though, that project is still in the treatment stage of development.

We’ll keep you posted on all of these projects in addition to Thunderbolts as more details surface!
