8 New Movies Coming Out This Week: ‘Creed III’ and More!
Curious what the new movies coming out this week are? First up, we have a return to the boxing ring for a fighter we fell in love with eight years ago. Next, a spy thriller with a splash of comedy. Then, a horror film that won a ton of film festival awards. And we also have a rom-com about an out-of-work handyman who gets mistaken for a famous writer no one has seen for twenty years.
All that and another film based on a Steven King story to fill out this week’s new releases! Here is the full rundown of new movies coming out this week in theatres, as well as those releasing on the major streaming platforms.
New Movies Coming Out This Week: February 27, 2023 – March 5, 2023
Creed III (2023)
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: In theatres nationwide on Friday, March 3, 2023.
Summary: In Creed III, Adonis (Michael B. Jordan), over the past seven years, has gotten everything he ever dreamed of, with both a career and a family life thriving. However, when a childhood friend (Jonathan Majors) shows up unexpectantly, the past rears its ugly head, and Adonis will have to fight for not only his career but for his life.
What to Watch For: The film’s star, Michael B. Jordan, is making his directorial debut with this movie. He was an executive producer on Creed II (2018).
Word on the Street: This is the first Rocky/Creed film series in which Sylvester Stallone will not appear.
My Take: I think Rocky (1976) and Creed (2015) are two of the finest boxing films ever made. It will be interesting to see what Michael B. Jordan comes up with without the influence of Sly Stallone.

What to Watch For: The cast includes Aubrey Plaza, Eddie Madsen, Cary Elwes, and Bugzy Malone.
Word on the Street: The film is from Guy Ritchie, the award-winning filmmaker of Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998).

What to Watch For: The supporting cast includes Don Johnson, Peyton List, Wendie Malick, Zach Braff, M. Emmet Walsh, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
Word on the Street: The film is based on the book Shriver by Chris Belden. The writer/director of the film, Michael Maren, was at a reading of the book by Belden at a bookstore and made a deal for the book rights that day.
My Take: I enjoyed Michael Maren’s previous film, A Short History of Decay (2014).

What to Watch For: Dan Ahdoot, Jerry O’Connell, and Jeff Torres play the three men Jaclyn will try to have sex with at the party.
Word on the Street: Writer/director of the film, Thom Harp, has won awards for his short films, including the Best Short Fiction Award for his 8 Minutes to Love (2004) at the Forest Film Festival.
My Take: I have been a fan of Malin Akerman since I saw her in a role on the TV series Witchblade.
Children of the Corn (2020)
Rating: R

Summary: In Children of the Corn, there has been a sacrificial murder of adults in a small town in Nebraska, with only one survivor, a child named Eden (Kate Moyer). What to Watch For: This is the twelfth feature film based on the Steven King short story of the same name.
Word on the Street: This is filmmaker Kurt Wimmer’s first directing job since his 2006 film Ultraviolet. Wimmer wrote the screenplays since then for Salt (2010), Total Recall (2012), and Point Break (2015).
My Take: The Children of the Corn films have always been a mixed bag, so seeing what this version brings will be interesting.
