‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ Casts Jack Kesy as New Hellboy

Jack Kesy

It was recently announced that another Hellboy movie was in the works and that the lead role would be recast. And we’ve just learned that Jack Kesy has been tapped to take on the character next.

The last Hellboy movie was released in 2019, and it starred David Harbour in the lead role. The film just barely broke even, grossing $55 million worldwide against a budget of $50 million.

Jack Kesy, best known for his role in 2018’s 12 Strong, is stepping into the role for the upcoming Hellboy: The Crooked Man. He’ll star alongside Yellowstone‘s Jefferson White and Resident Evil‘s Adeline Rudolph for the film, which is currently in pre-production.

What We Currently Know About Hellboy: The Crooked Man

Brian Taylor is set to direct the film, which is being written by Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola and writer Chris Golden. The movie is expected to start filming in a few months, and it will see Hellboy stranded in rural Appalachia during the 1950s. He’ll be joined by a rookie agent from the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD). Together, the duo will discover a small community that is haunted by witches. And that community happens to be led by a local devil with a connection to Hellboy’s past – the Crooked Man.

Kesy, 36, comes to the lead role after no shortage of upcoming projects. He’s currently in post-production on the action thriller Murder at Hollow Creek. He’ll star opposite Mickey Rourke and Casper Van Dien in that project.

The additional cast is still being added to Hellboy: The Crooked Man. The project is currently in development at Millennium Media. It will be the first picture in the company’s partnership with the German film and TV distributor Telepool, which is owned by Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

“Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles,” says Jonathan Yunger, co-President of Millennium Media. “His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on ‘The Outpost’.”

Hellboy’s Movie History

The rights to Hellboy were acquired by Millennium in 2018. And the David Harbour reboot came just a year later. Previously, Ron Perlman had also starred in the role for 2004’s Hellboy and 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Both films were directed by Guillermo del Toro and were well-received by audiences and critics.

No release date is currently announced for Hellboy: The Crooked Man. But we’ll keep you posted as more news on the upcoming project surfaces!
