New ‘Alien’ Movie Begins Filming in Budapest, Hungary
The Alien movie franchise is moving forward with a brand new cast of rising talent. And the project, which has the working title of Alien: Romulus, is officially in production.
What We Currently Know About Alien: Romulus
Fede Alvarez, best known for writing and directing 2016’s Don’t Breathe, is directing what will be the ninth film in the sci-fi series. And The Craft: Legacy star Cailee Spaeny is taking on the lead role, which is being compared to Sigourney Weaver’s character Ellen Ripley. Spaeny is being joined by David Jonsson, who recently made his feature film debut in the British rom-com Rye Lane. Also starring is Archie Renaux, who starred in 2022’s The Greatest Beer Run Ever and Morbius. Additionally, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu have also signed on to the project.
The Storyline
Not many details are currently known about Alien: Romulus. But, it’s believed that the story will center around a group of young adults living in a far-away colony. That colony will find itself under attack from the terrifying Xenomorph creatures that have been made famous by the Alien franchise.
Executives at 20th Century Studios have revealed some details to Variety, confirming that the movie will center around “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe”.
Sir Ridley Scott Is Returning as a Producer
Sir Ridley Scott, who directed the initial 1979 film as well as the prequels Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, will return to produce for the new movie. Filming on the project is set to begin today, March 9, 2023, in Budapest, Hungary. Though, there is no release date scheduled for the movie as of yet.

..it is so exciting waiting for the new Alien film. There has been an ever growing fear over the years concerning the terrible beasts! Plus their incredible dire killing activities!!
Don’t have high hopes, judging by the very young cast this looks like a snarky teen version of an Alien movie. Neil Bloomkamp’s version would have been better.
I agree, this guy has only written teen thrillers which I enjoy but this is not what the alien franchise should come to. Ridley Scott’s biggest mistake was not following in the footsteps of Prometheus. Those grand questions about outer space and humanity ring true with all of us. I want to know more about the creators about their life and where they came from and how we came to be from them. I wouldn’t mind if it took a trip from horror and just went sci-fi. Because I promise you, the creator timeline is the most intriguing to fans!
