MCU’s Blade Reboot: Filming, Cast, Release Date, and More!

Blade Reboot

One of Marvel’s most anticipated upcoming movies is the Blade reboot. And it’s finally heading to the big screen in 2024.

While the project has faced no shortage of obstacles during its development, it is currently in pre-production, with Yann Demange confirmed as the film’s director. Previously, Bassam Tariq had been attached to direct. However, he departed from the project last year due to the production schedule, but he does remain involved as an executive producer.

At the time of Tariq’s departure, Marvel released a statement saying, “Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Bassam is no longer moving forward as director of ‘Blade’ but will remain an executive producer on the film. We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he’s done getting ‘Blade’ to where it is.”

The Cast of the Blade Reboot

Mahershala Ali will take on the lead role of Blade, a human-vampire hybrid character previously tackled by Wesley Snipes in 1998’s Blade, 2002’s Blade II, and 2004’s Blade: Trinity. Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre have also signed on in unknown roles. And most recently, Mia Goth, 29, best known for her work in 2022’s Pearl, has also joined the Blade cast.

With the film’s plot being kept under wraps, there’s been no indication of what role Goth will have in the movie.

How Does Snipes Feel About Ali Taking on the Role?

Wesley Snipes has had nothing but good things to say about Mahershala Ali’s casting in Blade.  He even tweeted Ali stating how he knew that he “will do great” in the role.

The words of encouragement have meant much to Ali, who commented on them, saying, “Man, you know, [I’m] humbled and so encouraged by that. Because he didn’t have to say that. Wasn’t nobody really asking him like that. “So for him to come out and say that, somebody I look up to so much, I sincerely appreciated that.”

What We Know About the Movie’s Plot

We don’t know much about the storyline that the film will follow. But we do know that it’s expected to have a similar feel to the Wesley Snipes-led trilogy, with a dark and gritty tone. It’ll likely be one of the MCU’s darker films.

Blade’s Release Date

While the Blade reboot has faced no shortage of obstacles during its development, it does have a scheduled release date. Filming is expected to begin in Atlanta, Georgia, in the near future. And the movie will release on September 6, 2024.
