Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’ Delays Filming in Atlanta, Georgia

Thunderbolts Cast

Marvel’s Thunderbolts was preparing to film in Atlanta, Georgia, next month. However, those plans have been delayed due to the writers’ strike. The film’s crew was notified of the postponement last week.

The upcoming MCU movie still plans to film in both Atlanta and New York, with most filming taking place at Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia. Insiders are confirming that Marvel plans to resume production once the strike has ended.

The project, which is the 35th movie in the MCU, is being directed by Jake Schreier. And the script has been penned by Lee Sung Jin and Eric Pearson, with Kevin Feige producing.

The movie is said to be going by the “TRANSPLANT” production code and was initially expected to begin filming on June 12, 2023. The project comes on the heels of another Marvel project that has also been filming in Georgia, Captain America: New World Order. That movie has also been filming at Trilith Studios under the “ROCHELLE ROCHELLE” code name (which has been abbreviated as “RR”).

The Storyline Behind Thunderbolts

While not much is known about the film’s plot yet, we know little about the Thunderbolts from the comics. They’re a group of supervillains that are sent on missions commissioned by the government.

The team was originally conceived by Baron Helmut Zemo under the identity of Citizen V in a cover to steal the cities’ resources and to place themselves in a position of trust by convincing the authorities that they were heroes. Zemo recruited Goliath as Atlas, Moonstone as Meteorite, Beetle as Mach-I, Fixer as Techno, and Screaming Mimi as Songbird. However, the team later reformed and became a true force for good in the world.

We also know that Harrison Ford is starring as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in Captain America: New World Order, which is coming out a few months ahead of Thunderbolts. That movie is scheduled to release on May 3, 2024. So, it would be safe to assume that the events from the New World Order will directly impact or perhaps set up Thunderbolts.

Thunderbolts Release Date

The Thunderbolts release date is already set for July 26, 2024. However, whether the writers’ strike will impact filming or the release date is unclear. Stay tuned for more details!
