Nicolas Cage Signs on to Star in ‘Lord of War’ Sequel

Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage is signing on to star Lords of War, a sequel to the 2005 film Lord of the War.

Cage, 59, is set to return to his role as gunrunner Yuri Orlov in the flick, which will once again be directed by Andrew Niccol. Additionally, Bill Skarsgard will play Orlove’s son, Anton, in the crime thriller.

The film will follow Yuri Orlov, the world’s most notorious gunrunner. He’ll discover he has a son, Anton, who isn’t trying to correct his father’s wrongs but instead, top them. In fact, Anton is trying to raise an army of mercenaries to fight in America’s Middle Eastern conflicts, triggering a father-son rivalry.

Lords of War to Launch Sales at Cannes Film Festival

The flick will launch sales for the project at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, which takes May 16 – 27, 2023. Phillippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi are producing under their Vendome Pictures banner and Cage for Saturn Films. Additionally, Skarsgard will executive produce the film, which is heading into production this fall.

“There is so much more to explore with these characters. Plato said it best – ‘Only the dead have seen the end of war,'” director Andrew Niccol said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to spending more time in the company of the charming devil that is Yuri Orlov and now his illegitimate son – who turns out to not be legitimate in any way.”

“The ‘Lord of War’ world has no shortage of ammunition in the possibilities of stories we can tell, and we are very excited to tell yet another one that follows Yuri and Anton’s dangerous journey,” Phillippe Rousselet added.

Upcoming Nicolas Cage Movies

Aside from Lord of the Wars, Nicolas Cage has a number of films in post-production. The first to release will be the action thriller Sympathy for the Devil, which will premiere this July. The film follows a man who, after being forced to drive a mysterious passenger at gunpoint, finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse. It quickly becomes apparent that not everything is as it seems.

Additionally, Cage has Longlegs, Dream Scenario, and Arcadian in post-production. And all are expected to premiere in 2024.
