Paul Rudd Joins ‘The Invite’ Alongside Amy Adams and Tessa Thompson

Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd is signing on to star in the upcoming comedy The Invite alongside Amy Adams and Tessa Thompson.

All three actors are confirmed for the project, which is based on Cesc Gay’s award-winning 2020 Spanish film Sentimental. The movie is being directed for FilmNation Entertainment and Permut Presentations by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. And the script is penned by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack.

The Plot of The Invite

The film tells the story of Joe (played by Paul Rudd) and Angela (Amy Adams), who find their relationship is stuck in a rut after 15 years of marriage. Desperate to have a conversation that doesn’t revolve around their marriage woes, Angela invites their rowdy neighbors, Kayla (Thompson) and Shane, over for cocktails.

Joe is irritated that he has to engage with the couple and plans to use the occasion to confront them. However, he and Angela both get more than they bargained for as they discover Kayla and Shane are hosting weekly orgies and have an invite for them.

Paul Rudd’s Upcoming Movies

The Invite is currently in pre-production. Paul Rudd, 54, is expected to begin filming the project after he wraps the Ghostbusters Sequel, which is scheduled to release on December 20, 2023. There is no word yet on how the writers’ strike will impact either of these projects.

Fans can expect to see Rudd next in this summer’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. He’ll voice Mondo Gecko in the flick, which is being co-directed by Jeff Rowe and Kyler Spears.

Rudd is also rumored to return as Ant-Man in the upcoming Marvel flick, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The MCU film is planned for release in 2025. And it was listed as pre-production as of November 2023. However, much like Rudd’s other projects at the moment – it’s unclear how the writers’ strike will impact production.
