Theo James is set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of Stephen King’s The Monkey.

The horror flick is being directed by Osgood Perkins, who is also penning the screenplay. Insidious creator James Wan is also involved and will produce alongside Atomic Monster partner Michael Clear. Additionally, Dave Caplan and Jason Cloth, from C2 Motion Picture Group, will also produce.

The Monkey Follows Twin Brothers and a Creepy Monkey Toy

The movie follows twin brothers Bill and Hal. The pair discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, which unlocks a series of gruesome deaths. The siblings decide to throw the toy away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. However, when the mysterious deaths start again, the brothers are forced to reunite in order to destroy the toy for good.

Stephen King is the godfather of the horror genre,” Wan says, speaking of the upcoming project. “He had a huge influence on me as a child and throughout my career, and it’s always been a dream to help bring one of his stories to life.”

“‘The Monkey’ is a personal favorite, with its simple, iconic and incredibly marketable conceit,” he continues. “And I can’t imagine anyone better than a visionary and lifelong genre fan like Osgood to bring this to life.”

The movie will be launched at Black Bear International ahead of the upcoming Cannes market. Additional casting is still being worked on.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Osgood, James, Brian, and our friends at Black Bear International to present Stephen King’s ‘The Monkey’,” Cloth and Caplan noted. “It perfectly checks the box of what is working in the marketplace right now and will be a hot property.”

“We can’t wait for audiences to see Theo James in this role. He is really going to knock it out of the park with an amazing performance,” they add.

Upcoming Projects for Theo James

Aside from The Monkey, Theo James is also set to serve as a producer on the upcoming Lucy Liu film Rosemead. The drama follows an immigrant mother with terminal cancer who takes desperate measures to help her unstable teenage son as she uncovers his growing obsession with mass shootings. No word on a release date yet for the project, as the script is still being completed.
