Ellen DeGeneres Praised For Idol Debut

The TV Critics loved Ellen DeGeneres on her American Idol debu last night. DeGeneres joined judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi for the Hollywood round of auditions.

New York Times described DenGeneres as ‘witty both in her embraces and her take-downs’ while MTV claimed that she added ‘a strong, confident voice of reason’ to the AI panel.

DeGeneres told AI contestants that, “People say, ‘What do you know about music?’ I do know what it’s like to stand on stage and try to please an entire room full of people. That is a hard thing to do.”

On her thoughts of Simon? “I think he’s a funny guy. He’s going to be a challenge. He’s Simon and I’m me and we’re two different people. We’ll see how it goes.”

  1. I was expecting Ellen to turn the show into a comedy, and was dreading it. I was pleasingly surprised at her authentic and professional approach to the “judging”. I hope she continues to do this! The occasional joke was good and clean, so Kudos, Ellen!
