Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ Leads 2024 Oscar Nominations with 13 Nods (Complete List)

The 2024 Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer topped the shortlist with 13 nominations. While Oppenheimer’s domination of the nominations shouldn’t surprise movie fans, there were some pretty major snubs from the Academy this year. Greta Gerwig and Celine Song didn’t receive nominations for Best Director, Margot Robbie didn’t receive a nomination for Best Actress, and The Color Purple didn’t get a Best Picture nomination.

The Best Actor category was filled out mostly as expected, with Cillian Murphy being nominated for Oppenheimer, Bradley Cooper for Maestro, Colman Domingo for Rustin, Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers, and Jeffrey Wright for American Fiction. 

For Best Actress nominations, Emma Stone in Poor Things, Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon, Annette Bening in Nyad, Sandra Hüller in Anatomy of a Fall, and Carey Mulligan in Maestro were all recognized. 

In second place with 11 nominations was the comedic period piece Poor Things, starring Emma Stone. And, rounding out the films with the most nominations were Killers of the Flower Moon with 10 nominations, Barbie with eight (though shockingly not for Greta Gerwig for Best Director or Margot Robbie for Best Actress), and The Holdovers with five.

Interestingly, Barbie and Oppenheimer faced off at the summer box office, with Barbie taking the top spot with nearly $1.5 billion worldwide compared to Oppenheimer‘s $953.8 million. Now they’ll compete again for Best Picture.

Other Best Picture nominees included American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, Poor Things, and The Zone of Interest.
