First up, Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones star in Twisters, as a meteorologist (Edgar-Jones) teams up with a storm chaser (Powell) to test a new type of equipment that could save countless lives.
In the documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story, a couple makes the decision to climb the world’s tallest building, a 118-story skyscraper in Malaysia. And we get a horror film in Oddity about a twin who uses a giant wooden mannequin to find out how her sister died a year ago.

New Movies Coming Out This Week: July 15, 2024 – July 21, 2024
Twisters (2024)
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: In theaters nationwide on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Summary: In Twisters, Kate Carter (Daisy Edgar-Jones) is a meteorologist who used to love chasing tornadoes until she encountered one that had deadly results. Kate is lured back into the open plains by her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos), who has developed a groundbreaking new tracking system that could save hundreds of lives. She soon meets Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), a reckless storm chaser with a huge social media following.
What to Watch For: Like the 1996 film Twister starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt, this film was shot on location in Oklahoma.
Word on the Street: In the trailer, a water tower with the name El Reno is shown collapsing. The tower is a tribute to the El Reno tornado 2013 victims, where three members of a storm-chasing team were killed.
My Take: I know that the late Bill Paxton tried for years to get a sequel of Twister made but kept hitting roadblocks.
Skywalkers: A Love Story (2024)

Release Date: Premiering on Netflix on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Summary: Skywalkers: A Love Story is a documentary about a couple who have made a career in climbing the highest buildings in the world. Their next destination is Malaysia to scale the 118-story mega-tall skyscraper Merdeka 118. Their goal is to rekindle their careers and relationship.
What to Watch For: The film won the Audience Award at the 2024 Miami Film Festival.
Word on the Street: The documentary is co-directed by award-winning filmmaker Jeff Zimbalist, known for his films Favela Rising (2005), The Two Escobars (2010), and Pele: Birth of a Legend.
My Take: I am always fascinated by people who climb buildings or tightrope across giant spans.
Oddity (2024)
Rating: R
Release Date: In theaters on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Summary: In Oddity, it has been a year since Dani (Carolyn Bracken), home alone, opened her door to a stranger named Olin (Tadhg Murphy) and was murdered. A year after Dani’s death, Darcy (also Bracken) arrives at her late sister’s husband’s door with a large wooden mannequin. Darcy is convinced she can discover why Dani opened that door to a stranger.
What to Watch For: The movie is from filmmaker Damian McCarthy, whose first film was the award-winning horror film Caveat.
Word on the Street: The film was a massive hit on the horror film festival circuit, including the Midnighters award at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival.
My Take: Carolyn Bracken played the mysterious Woman in one of my favorite films of 2022, The Quiet Girl.
My Spy: The Eternal City (2024)
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: Premiering on Amazon Prime on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
Summary: JJ (Dave Bautista) and Sophie (Chloe Coleman) are back in My Spy: The Eternal City. This time Sophie convinces JJ to chaperone her school trip to Rome. Just their luck, there is an international terrorist plot that is targeting CIA Chief David Kim (Ken Jeong) and his son, Colin (Taeho K), on the trip.
What to Watch For: The cast includes Anna Faris, Kristen Schaal, Flula Borg, and Craig Robinson.
Word on the Street: This is a sequel to the 2020 Amazon original film My Spy.
My Take: I love the film’s tagline: Rome Isn’t Ready.
Crumb Catcher (2023)
Rating: N/A
Release Date: In theaters on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Summary: In Crumb Catcher, Shane (Rigo Garay) and Leah (Ella Rae Peck) have just gotten married, and the relationship is already on rocky ground. They have driven to a remote cabin for their honeymoon when they are interrupted by their wedding caterer, John (Chris Skotchdopole), and his wife, Rose (Lorraine Farris). Shane and Leah are going to regret letting John in. John has an invention that he wants the newlyweds to invest in, and he’s not taking no for an answer.
What to Watch For: Chris Skotchdopole, who plays the caterer with the Crumb Catcher invention, wrote and directed the film.
Word on the Street: The film won two awards, including the Audience Award at the 2023 Brooklyn Horror Film Festival.
My Take: Ella Rae Peck is known for portraying Lola Rhodes on the TV series Gossip Girl.
Widow Clicquot (2023)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Summary: Widow Clicquot is the story of Barbe-Nicole Clicquot (Haley Bennett), who, at age twenty-seven, after her husband’s death, took over the family vineyard and revolutionized the champagne-making process, creating a world sensation against the odds.
What to Watch For: The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
Word on the Street: The film is based on a true story, and the company/brand she developed, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, is still in production.
My Take: The film is based on Tilar J. Mazzeo’s best-selling book The Widow Clicquot: The Story of a Champagne Empire and the Woman Who Ruled It.
Mother, Couch (2023)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Summary: Mother, Couch begins with Dave (Ewan McGregor) discovering his mother (Ellen Burstyn) sitting on a green couch inside a vintage furniture store. His mother has refused to leave, and suddenly, the whole family descends on the store to try to get her off the couch. Before that happens, secrets will be revealed and lives will be changed.
What to Watch For: The outstanding cast includes Lake Bell, Rhys Ifans, Taylor Russell, Lara Flynn Boyle, and F. Murray Abraham.
Word on the Street: Director Niclas Larsson is known for his award-winning short films Vatten (2013) and The Magic Diner (2015).
My Take: Taylor Russell portrayed Judy Robinson in the TV series Lost in Space.
Find Me Falling (2024)

Summary: In Find Me Falling, John (Harry Connick Jr.) is a rock star whose big comeback album was a disaster. Licking his wounds, he buys a cliff-side home in Cypress, a place he once knew before becoming famous. His dream of keeping a low profile is shattered with constant interruptions, including an old love, long-lost, who has resurfaced.
What to Watch For: This is the second movie that filmmaker Stelana Kliris has shot in Cypress. The first was the 2014 romantic comedy Committed.
Word on the Street: The cast includes Agni Scott, Ali Fumiko Whitney, Clarence Smith, and Christodoulos Martas.
My Take: The film features original songs written and performed by Harry Connick Jr..
