Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)

Release Date: In theaters nationwide on Friday, September 6, 2024.
Summary: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice begins after an unexpected family tragedy. Three generations of the Deetz family have come home to Winter River, the house we all know so well. Lydia (Winona Ryder) is still haunted by Beetlejuice, and to make things worse, her daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega), has discovered that mysterious model of the town. It’s only a matter of time before someone’s name will be uttered three times.
What to Watch For: Tim Burton has always stated that he would not make another Beetlejuice film without Michael Keaton. Keaton stated that he has never been interested in doing any sequels other than Beetlejuice.
Word on the Street: This is Tim Burton’s 20th feature film he has directed.
My Take: I can’t wait to see what Willem Dafoe does with his role as Wolf Jackson.
The Front Room (2024)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, September 6, 2024.
Summary: In The Front Room, things are great as Belinda (Brandy Norwood) and her husband Norman (Andrew Burnap) are expecting a child. What Belinda didn’t count on was Norman’s ailing, estranged mother, Solange (Kathryn Hunter), moving into their home. Solange erratic behavior and mysterious past turn the once-happy home into a battleground of paranoia and fear.
What to Watch For: The film is based on a short story by Susan Hill.
Word on the Street: This is the directorial debut for brothers Max and Sam Eggers. Max wrote the screenplay for the 2019 film The Lighthouse.
My Take: The film is being released by A24, the home of horror hits Hereditary, Midsommar, and Talk to Me.
His Three Daughters (2024)
Rating: R
Release Date: In select theaters on Friday, September 6, 2024, and on Netflix on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Summary: His Three Daughters is the story of three daughters (Elizabeth Olsen, Natasha Lyonne, and Carrie Coon) who converge on their father’s New York apartment to care for him in his last days. In the next three days, the daughters will try to heal old wounds and come together to patch together a family that has been separated for far too long.
What to Watch For: The movie is written and directed by Azazel Jacobs, the award-winning filmmaker of French Exit (2020), The Lovers (2017), and Terri (2010).
Word on the Street: Netflix acquired the worldwide rights to the film of the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
My Take: I have been a fan of Elizabeth Olsen since she burst on the scene with her award-winning role as Martha in the 2011 Indie hit Martha Marcy May Marlene.
The Thicket (2024)
Rating: R
Release Date: In theaters on Friday, September 6, 2024.
Summary: In The Thicket, Jack (Levon Hawke) is on a quest to rescue his sister (Esmé Creed-Miles) from a ruthless killer known only as Cutthroat Bill (Juliette Lewis). Jack recruits a bounty hunter, Reginald Jones (Peter Dinklage), who rallies a band of unlikely heroes, including a grave-digging ex-slave (Gbenga Akinnagbe) and a street-smart woman-for-hire (Leslie Grace). The trail leads them into the deadly ‘no-man’s-land’ known as ‘The Thicket.’
What to Watch For: The film is based on a novel of the same name by Joe Lansdale.
Word on the Street: Metallica frontman James Hetfield has a part in the western.
My Take: I know this has been a ‘passion project’ for Peter Dinklage, who has been trying to get this film made since 2014.
Look Into My Eyes (2024)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, September 6, 2024.
Summary: Look Into My Eyes is a documentary that explores the world of psychics and their clients as we follow seven New York City psychics as they help people with pain and grief.
What to Watch For: The film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
Word on the Street: The film is directed by Lana Wilson, the award-winning filmmaker known for Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields (2023) and The Departure (2018).
My Take: The film is being mentioned as a possible contender for an Oscar nomination.
Rebel Ridge (2024)

Release Date: Premiering on Netflix on Friday, September 6, 2024.
Summary: In Rebel Ridge, all Terry (Aaron Pierre), an ex-Marine, wanted to do was post bail for his cousin, but a small-town police chief (Don Johnson) has taken his money, and Terry is about to get it back anyway he has to.
What to Watch For: Aaron Pierre is best known for his role as Dev-Em in the TV series Krypton. He will voice Mufasa in the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King film.
What to Watch For: The cast includes David Denman, Emory Cohen, AnnaSophia Robb, Steve Zissis, Zsane Jhe, and Daniel H. Chung.
My Take: The film is directed by Jeremy Saulnier, known for his award-winning films Blue Ruin (2013) and Green Room (2015).
The Cowboy & the Queen (2023)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, September 6, 2024.
Summary: The documentary The Cowboy and the Queen is about Monty Roberts, an unconventional horse trainer who rejected traditional ‘breaking methods’ and developed a non-violent method. Monty formed an unlikely friendship with Queen Elizabeth, bonding on their shared love of animals.
What to Watch For: The documentary is from filmmaker Andrea Blaugrund Nevins, who was nominated for an Oscar for her short subject documentary Still Kicking: The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies (1998).
Word on the Street: The film won the Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 2024 Berkshire International Film Festival.
My Take: Any documentary that features horses is a movie that I want to see.
