Anya Taylor-Joy Isn’t Letting Go of Her Dream to Play Elsa in Live-Action ‘Frozen’
Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed her interest to star as Elsa in a potential live-action adaptation of Disney’s beloved animated film Frozen. The 28-year-old star, best known for her roles in the 2020 mini-series The Queen’s Gambit and 2015’s The Witch, recently shared her enthusiasm for the idea in a recent interview with Vogue Hong Kong.
When asked about her dream Disney role, Taylor-Joy said, “I think ‘Frozen’ would be pretty great. It would be very fun to shoot ice out of your hand. Also, you’d just be the favorite at every kid’s birthday party,” she said.
The actress, who has recently become an aunt, added a personal touch to her aspiration, stating, “All of my siblings have children now. So I would love for them to be able to say ‘my auntie is Elsa.’ That would be pretty sick.”
Taylor-Joy’s interest in Disney roles isn’t new. Early in her career, she auditioned for a part in Maleficent (we’re assuming for the role that ultimately went to Elle Fanning), showcasing her long-standing affinity for the magical world of Disney. While a live-action Frozen hasn’t been announced, fans of the franchise can look forward to a third animated installment. At this year’s D23 Expo, Disney Animation confirmed that Frozen 3 is set for a 2027 release. So it wouldn’t be surprising to hear a live-action adaptation in the future as well.
The prospect of a live-action Frozen also aligns perfectly with Taylor-Joy’s career aspirations. She expressed a keen interest in tackling a musical role, stating, “I would love to do a musical because I’m a bit addicted to hard work. I like having an impossible mountain to climb. The idea of having to be able to sing, dance, and act at the same time would just really thrill me.”
Taylor-Joy’s background as a trained ballet dancer could prove advantageous for such a role. She reflected on how her dance experience has influenced her acting, saying, “I see acting as a rhythm thing; I almost hear it as music, and that helps so much with stunt choreography because you’re in a dance with every other performer around you, so you don’t only know your own beats, you know everybody else’s beats in order to keep everyone safe.”
The actress also noted the broader impact of her dance training, highlighting “the discipline that it instills in you” and how it contributes to the “rhythm” of acting.
While Disney has yet to announce plans for a live-action Frozen, we love the idea of Anya Taylor-Joy bringing Elsa to life on the big screen! If this project does start to have more buzz around it – we’ll keep you posted!
