In Better Man, we follow Robbie Williams on his journey to becoming a pop superstar in Europe, but it wasn’t always an easy ride. What makes this film different? Robbie is portrayed by a CGI chimpanzee.
Pamela Anderson stars in The Last Showgirl, a film about a woman who has lived her life as a Las Vegas showgirl, and now it’s being taken away. Anderson’s performance is the talk of Hollywood.

New Movies Coming Out This Week: January 6, 2025 – January 12, 2025
Better Man (2024)
Rating: R
Release Date: In theaters nationwide on January 10, 2025.
Summary: Better Man tells the true story of Robbie Williams, who dreamed at a young age that he would become a world-famous pop star. We follow Robbie as his meteoric rise, dramatic fall, and then dramatic resurgence as a British pop superstar play out before our eyes.
What to Watch For: Robbie Williams in the film is portrayed by a chimpanzee using CGI. The chimpanzee was performed in the film by Jonno Davies using motion capture technology and voiced by both Williams and Davies.
Word on the Street: The film came from multiple recordings where filmmaker Michael Gracey interviewed Robbie Williams in his studio over the course of a year and a half. Those recordings are the source of most of Williams’ voiceovers in the film.
My Take: There is a big dance number in the film that was shot on Regent Street, which took over two years to be filmed because of numerous delays. The street is one of the most famous areas in the West End of London.
The Last Showgirl (2024)
Rating: R
Release Date: In theaters on January 10, 2025.
Summary: In The Last Showgirl, Shelly (Pamela Anderson) has been a part of a Las Vegas revue show for over 20 years. Shelly has given up everything to be a part of the show; it is part of her life, and suddenly, she is told that in two weeks, the show will close forever.
What to Watch For: This is the first theatrical feature film Anderson has headlined since her 1996 film Barb Wire.
Word on the Street: The film has an outstanding supporting cast, including Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, Dave Bautista, Billie Lourd, Jason Schwartzman, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
My Take: The film was shot in 18 days on location in Las Vegas.
Den of Thieves 2: Pantera (2025)
Rating: R
Release Date: In theaters on January 10, 2025.
Summary: In Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, Big Nick (Gerard Butler) is in Europe and is tracking down Donnie Wilson (O’Shea Jackson Jr.). Big Nick finds Donnie is embroiled in the world of diamond thieves and the mafia. Could Big Nick actually join forces with the man he has been hunting for so long?
What to Watch For: The film is based on the 2003 Antwerp diamond heist.
Word on the Street: The film is a sequel to the 2018 film Den of Thieves.
My Take: Filmmaker Christian Gudegast, who wrote and directed the first film, is returning to direct the sequel.
Nickel Boys (2024)
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: In select theaters on January 10, 2025.
Summary: Nickel Boys tells the story of Elwood Curtis (Ethan Herisse) and Turner (Brandon Wilson), two Black teenagers sent to the Nickel Academy in Florida after being accused of crimes they did not commit. The boys in the Jim Crow era South will have to rely on their friendship if they are to survive the horrors of school.
What to Watch For: The film is based on the 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colson Whitehead.
Word on the Street: The film has garnered many awards from film critic groups, including winning Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography from the Atlanta Film Critics Circle.
My Take: The film is based on the real Dozier School for Boys that operated in Florida for over 100 years.
Hard Truths (2024)
Rating: R
Release Date: In theaters on January 10, 2025.
Summary: Hard Truths is about Pansy (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), a woman who is depressed and angry at the world. Pansy finds offense in almost every situation and is always on the verge of flying off the handle. She has alienated her husband Curtley (David Webber) and her adult son Moses (Tuwaine Barrett), who don’t dare say anything to her for fear of her reacting with rage. Pansy’s only person she can talk to is her sister, Chantal (Michele Austin), a person who sees good in everyone. However, even Chantal has a breaking point, and Pansy may find herself alone in dealing with the world.
What to Watch For: The film is from seven-time Oscar-nominated Mike Leigh, known for his films Secrets & Lies (1996), Topsy-Turvy (1999), Vera Drake (2004), and Happy-Go-Lucky (2008).
Word on the Street: The film won the 2024 National Board of Review Best Original Screenplay Award.
My Take: This was the last film the late great cinematographer Dick Pope (Mr. Turner (2015), The Illusionist (2006)) worked on.
Every Little Thing (2024)

Release Date: In select theaters on January 10, 2025.
Summary: Every Little Thing is a documentary that revolves around Terry Masear, who runs a sanctuary for hummingbirds in the heart of Beverly Hills. It’s a harsh world out there for hummingbirds, and Terry spends her days and nights rescuing and rehabilitating the tiny birds back to health.
What to Watch For: The film made its premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
Word on the Street: The film won the Adrienne Shelley Excellence in Filmmaking Award at the 2024 Nantucket Film Festival.
My Take: Like many people, one of my favorite birds is the hummingbird, and I can’t wait to see this film.
Disfluency (2024)
Rating: N/A
Release Date: In select theaters on January 10, 2025.
Summary: Disfluency is about Jane (Libe Barer), who everyone thought was destined for greatness. Jane has suddenly returned to her parents’ summer lake house after failing her final college class. Something in Jane’s past keeps her from succeeding, and she will have to deal with that past trauma to move forward.
What to Watch For: The film won two awards at the 2022 Newport Beach Film Festival.
Word on the Street: Libe Barer is best known for her role as Carly Bowman on the TV series Sneaky Pete.
My Take: The film has gotten rave reviews from film critics who saw the movie on the film festival circuit.
