In Wolf Man, a family visits a remote family home only to have the father get bitten by an unknown animal. It’s a bite that will become deadly.
Keke Palmer and SZA star in One of Them Days, where they play best friends and roommates who have until the end of the day to get their rent money, or they will be out on the street. They are going to have to go to extremes to find the money!

New Movies Coming Out This Week: January 13, 2025 – January 19, 2025
Wolf Man (2025)
Rating: R
Release Date: In theaters nationwide on Friday, January 17, 2025.
Summary: In Wolf Man, Blake’s (Christopher Abbott) and his wife Charlotte’s (Julia Garner) marriage is falling apart. Blake inherits his childhood home, a remote house in rural Oregon, after his father disappears and is presumed dead. Blake takes the family, including his young daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth), to his father’s home to get away from it all. An unseen animal attacks Blake, and as the night progresses, he transforms into something unimaginable.
What to Watch For: Filmmaker Leigh Whannell is known for writing the screenplay to Saw (2005) and writing/directing the award-winning 2020 film The Invisible Man.
Word on the Street: This is the second film in the Blumhouse ‘Universal Monsterverse’ after Whannell’s The Invisible Man.
My Take: The creature design in the film is all ‘practical costume and makeup,’ no CGI was used.
One of Them Days (2025)
Rating: R
Release Date: In theaters on Friday, January 17, 2025.
Summary: One of Them Days starts when best friends and roommates Dreux (Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) discover that Alyssa’s boyfriend has used all their rent money on a get-rich-quick scheme. The two friends will have to scramble to get the rent to the landlord by the end of the day, or they will be out on the street.
What to Watch For: This is global music superstar SZA’s first feature film role.
Word on the Street: This is the first feature film for director Lawrence Lamont, who has directed several Big Sean music videos.
My Take: The cast includes Janelle James, Lil Rel Howery, Maude Apatow, Gabrielle Dennis, Katt Williams, and Vanessa Bell Calloway.
The Room Next Door (2024)
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: In select theaters on Friday, January 17, 2025.
Summary: The Room Next Door is about two women, Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton), who were best friends when they were younger. Having lost touch, Ingrid is surprised when Martha reaches out to meet her. It seems Martha has something she wants to ask Ingrid to help her do. That something is to go on a trip that Martha plans on not returning from forever.
What to Watch For: Tilda Swinton was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture for her role in the film.
Word on the Street: This is the first English-language film from the Oscar-winning filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar.
My Take: I think that Tilda Swinton has a great shot at getting another Academy Award nomination for her role in the film.
Back In Action (2025)
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: Premiering on Netflix on Friday, January 17, 2025.
Summary: In Back in Action, Matt (Jamie Foxx) and Emily (Cameron Diaz) have been living the quiet suburban life with their daughter, Alice (McKenna Roberts). However, Matt and Emily have a secret, and it has just come out, which will endanger all their lives. They are former CIA spies that made a lot of enemies.
What to Watch For: This is Cameron Diaz’s first film since coming out of her retirement.
Word on the Street: This is the third movie in which Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz starred. The first was Any Given Sunday (1999) and then Annie (2014), which was the last film that Diaz starred in before her retirement.
My Take: The film is directed by Seth Gordon, known for his films Horrible Bosses (2011) and Identity Thief (2013).
Night Call (2024)
Rating: N/A
Release Date: In theaters on Friday, January 17, 2024.
Summary: Night Call is about Mady (Jonathan Feltre), a student by day and a locksmith by night. He gets a call to help someone locked out, a young woman named Claire (Natacha Krief). However, Mady’s good turn goes bad when it turns out Claire has stolen some money from very bad people, and Mady is given the rest of the night to get that money back.
What to Watch For: The film was nominated for the Progressive Cinema Best Film Award at the 2024 Rome Film Festival.
Word on the Street: This is the first feature film for Michiel Blanchart. His short film You’re Dead Helene (2021) won the Best Short Film award at the 2021 Austin Fantastic Fest.
My Take: I can’t wait to see this film. Blanchart’s short film, You’re Dead Helene, won over 30 awards at film festivals around the world.
Wish You Were Here (2025)
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: In theaters on Friday, January 17, 2024.
Summary: Wish You Were Here is about a young woman, Charlotte (Isabelle Fuhrman), and a young man (Mena Massoud) who meet unexpectedly and have a perfect date, only to end suddenly the next morning. Charlotte is in search of answers, only to find out that the young man she went out with for one night holds a secret that will alter everything.
What to Watch For: the film is based on the best-selling book by Renée Carlino.
Word on the Street: The film is the feature film directorial debut of Julia Stiles, known for her starring roles in 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) and Save the Last Dance (2001).
My Take: Isabelle Fuhrman was last seen in Horizon: An American Saga (2024) as Diamond Kittredge.
Grand Theft Hamlet (2024)
Rating: R
Release Date: in select theaters on Friday, January 17, 2024.
Summary: Grand Theft Hamlet is a documentary about two struggling actors, Sam and Mark, who, during the 2021 Covid lockdown, decided to try to put on Hamlet inside the Grand Theft Auto Online game.
What to Watch For: The film was a hit on the film festival circuit, winning the Grand Jury Award for Documentary Feature at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival.
Word on the Street: The Film Stage has named the movie one of the Ten Films to See in January.
My Take: I absolutely love the trailer for this film.
