This week, we have a movie perfect for every kind of move fan!

First up, we have Love Hurts, an action film about a retired hitman (Ke Huy Quan) who is forced to come out of retirement when his dead ex-partner (Ariana DeBose) shows up alive and needs his help.

If you’re in the mood for suspense, Heart Eyes brings a chilling narrative of a serial killer targeting couples on Valentine’s Day. Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding star as coworkers mistaken for lovers, embroiled in a deadly chase.

Release Date:  In theaters on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Summary: In Love Hurts, Marvin (Ke Huy Quan) is a former hitman who has left his violent past for a much quieter life. Rose (Ariana DeBose), a partner Marvin thought was dead, has suddenly turned up and has some news that will turn Marvin’s quiet life into a full out battle to protect his future.

What to Watch For: The cast includes Daniel Wu, Marshawn Lynch, Mustafa Shakir, Lio Tipton, Rhys Darby, André Eriksen, and Sean Astin.

Word on the Street: Ke Huy Quan performed all his own stunts in the film.

My Take: Ke Huy Quan and Sean Austin were both in the fan-favorite 1985 film The Goonies. 

Heart Eyes

Heart Eyes  (2025)

Release Date:  In theaters on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Summary: In Heart Eyes, for the past few years, the “Heart Eyes Killer” has stalked and murdered couples out on the most romantic day of the year. Valentine’s Day. The killer mistakes two coworkers (Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding) for a couple and sets out to make them the next victims. Can they survive this night of romance?

What to Watch For: Josh Ruben, known for his films Werewolves Within (2021) and Scare Me (2020) directs the movie.

Word on the Street: Mason Gooding knows horror films as he played Chad Meeks-Martin in Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023).

My Take: I love that this film is being called a Horror Rom-Com.

I'm Still Here

I’m Still Here  (2024)

Rating:  PG-13

Release Date: In select theaters on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Summary: I’m Still Here takes place in 1971, when Rubens Paiva, a former congressman and critic of the Brazilian military dictatorship, is taken from his home by government officials, never to be heard of again. His wife, Eunice (Fernanda Torres), seeks to find out what happened to her husband while trying to keep her family going.

What to Watch For: The film has three Academy Award nominations: Best International Feature Film, Best Motion Picture of the Year, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in Fernanda Torres. 

Word on the Street: The film is based on a true story.

My Take: I love that Fernanda Torres is the daughter of Brazilian actress Fernanda Montenegro, who was also nominated for a Best Actress in a Leading Role Academy Award for her role in the 1998 film Central Station.

Kinda Pregnant

Kinda Pregnant  (2025)

Rating:  R

Release Date:  Premiering on Netflix on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

Summary: Kinda Pregnant is the story of Lainy (Amy Schumer), who, after seeing how her best friend is getting all the attention, pretends to be pregnant by putting on a fake baby bump. Things are looking up, but wouldn’t you know it, Lainy then meets the man of her dreams.

What to Watch For: The movie is directed by Tyler Spindel, known for his films Father of the Year (2018) and The Out-Laws (2023).

Word on the Street:  The cast includes Will Forte, Jillian Bell, Brianne Howey, Urzila Carlson, Damon Wayans Jr., and Chris Geere.

My Take: I love the film that Amy Schumer wrote and starred in, the Judd Apatow comedy Trainwreck (2015).

No Other Land

No Other Land  (2024)

Rating:  N/A 

Release Date:  In select theaters on Friday, February 7, 2025, and On Demand.

Summary:  No Other Land is a documentary that follows a young Palestinian activist who has been protesting the displacement of his people by the Israeli military. As the military and settlers keep encroaching near his town, the activist makes friends with an Israeli journalist who is trying to publicize the tearing down Palestinian homes by Israeli soldiers.

What to Watch For: The film had its world premiere at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival.

Word on the Street: The film has been nominated for the Best Documentary Feature at the 2025 Oscars.

My Take: The film is at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with over fifty film critic reviews and has won over 60 awards from film critic groups and film festivals worldwide.

Bring Them Down

Bring Them Down  (2024)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Summary: The story of Bring Them Down revolves around an Irish family raising sheep in rural Ireland. Michael (Christopher Abbott), the last son of a sheepherding family, lives with his ailing father (Colm Meaney). When a conflict flairs up with a rival farmer (Paul Ready) and his hot-headed son (Barry Keoghan), it triggers a chain of events that grow out of control.

What to Watch For: The film won Best Picture at the 2024 Fantastic Fest.

Word on the Street: The film was shot on location in Ireland.

My Take: This is the feature film debut of Chris Andrews, who won the Best Debut Director at the 2024 British Independent Film Awards. 

When I'm Ready

When I’m Ready  (2025)

Release Date:  In theaters on Friday, February 7, 2025, and On Demand on Friday, February 14, 2025.

Summary: In When I’m Ready, an asteroid is going to hit Earth in six days, and the world could come to an end. Rose (June Schreiner) and Michael (Andrew Ortenberg) go on a cross-country trip to spend their last days exploring the country and each other. 

What to Watch For:  Andrew Ortenberg not only stars in the film but also wrote the screenplay.

Word on the Street: June Schreiner is best known for her role as June Hampton in the TV series Chicago Med.

My Take: Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead, The Vampire Diaries) plays a woman the couple meets on their trip.

Parthenope

Summary: Parthenope (Celeste Dalla Porta) is a young woman named after both the city she is from and one of the fabled Sirens. Wherever she goes, she leaves a path of men in her wake, including the famous author John Cheever (Gary Oldman). 

What to Watch For: Anthony Vaccarello of Saint Laurent created many of the outfits that Parthenope wears in the film.

Word on the Street: The movie is from filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino, known for his award-winning films The Hand of God (2022), The Great Beauty (2014), and Il Divo (2010).

My Take: The film was shot on location in Naples, Italy.

Armand

Release Date:  In select theaters on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Summary:  In Armand, Elisabeth (Renate Reinsve) is summoned to the school of her six-year-old son Armand over an incident. Elisabeth soon comes to the realization that her son is being accused of something far more serious than just a fight between two schoolboys.

What to Watch For:  The film is the official submission of Norway for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category of the 97th Academy Awards in 2025.

Word on the Street: The film is the feature directorial debut of Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel, grandson of Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann and Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman.

My Take: While the film didn’t make the final five Academy Award International Feature Film list, it made the top fifteen “short list” for the Oscars.

Becoming Led Zeppelin

Becoming Led Zeppelin  (2025)

Release Date:  In IMAX theaters on Friday, February 7, 2025, and in theaters everywhere on Friday, February 14, 2025.

Summary:  The documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin follows the journey of Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, John Bonham, and Robert Plant from the band forming in 1968 through its meteoric rise as one of the greatest rock bands.

What to Watch For: The film features previously unseen concert footage and utilizes unheard-of audio recordings of the band, including interviews with the late drummer of the band, John Bonham.

Word on the Street: The film was shown as a ‘work-in-progress’ film at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, where it got a ten-minute standing ovation.

My Take: The film is from Bernard MacMahon, the director of award-winning films American Epic (2015) and Arena (2016).
