What to Watch For: The film is based on a true story. The director of the film, Alex Parkinson, made the documentary Last Breath in 2019, which was about this very rescue mission.
Word on the Street: The cast includes Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, MyAnna Buring, Finn Cole, Djimon Hounsou, and Cliff Curtis.
My Take: I was on the edge of my seat when I saw the documentary, so I can’t wait to see this film.
Riff Raff (2024)

Summary: In Riff Raff, Vincent (Ed Harris) is an ex-con who just wants to spend the holidays in his secluded getaway home with his wife Sandy (Gabrielle Union) and her son DJ (Miles J. Harvey). Instead, everyone is coming to the home with a grudge to bear, including two hitmen (Bill Murray and Pete Davidson) who are on a killing spree that won’t stop until they get what they want.
What to Watch For: The film premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
Word on the Street: The film is directed by Dito Montiel, known for his award-winning films, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006) and Boulevard (2015).
My Take: I can’t wait to see what Jennifer Coolidge does in the role as the ex-wife of Vincent in the film.

My Dead Friend Zoe (2024)

The only problem is Zoe is dead, and only Merit can see and hear her. Now Merit has to help her estranged grandfather, Dale (Ed Harris), who is holed up in the family lake house. Dale has begun to lose his way and needs the one thing Merit has a hard time giving: help.
What to Watch For: The film has been a hit on the film festival circuit, winning seven awards, including the Audience Award at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival.

My Take: Besides the amazing Ed Harris, the cast includes Gloria Reuben, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Morgan Freeman.
Cold Wallet (2024)

Summary: Cold Wallet is about three Redditors (Tony Cavalero, Raúl Castillo, and Melonie Diaz) who lose a bunch of money in a crypto scam and decide to get their money back from the person who scammed them by breaking into his home. Things don’t exactly go as planned.
What to Watch For: The film won an award at Screamfest 2024 and played at the SXSW Film Festival.
Word on the Street: Melonie Diaz is best known for her role as Mel Vera on the CW TV series Charmed.
My Take: Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh is one of the film’s producers.
Ex-Husbands (2024)

Summary: Ex-Husbands is about Peter (Griffin Dunne), who has just filed for divorce and is trying to get over his father’s death. Peter heads for a resort in Mexico, not knowing that his son, Nick (James Norton), is at the same resort with his brother Mickey (Miles Heizer) to have a big bachelor party before Nick gets married. It might not be the get together that anyone wants.
What to Watch For: Ex-Husbands premiered at the 71st San Sebastian International Film Festival, where it vied for the Best Film Award.

My Take: A favorite actor of mine, Rosanna Arquette (Desperately Seeking Susan, After Hours, Pulp Fiction), plays Peter’s soon-to-be ex-wife.

Summary: No Address is about a group of seven individuals, all living on the streets, who form a family in order to survive gangs, a community that looks down on them, and authorities that want them just to go away.
