My Take: I have hope for this film because of the songwriting team of Pasek and Paul.

Summary: The Alto Knights follows two of New York’s most notorious crime bosses, Frank Costello and Vito Genovese. Once best friends, the two are on a collision course to control the city’s streets.
What to Watch For: The film is based on the non-fiction best-selling book Wiseguy: Life in the Mafia Family by Nicholas Pileggi.
Word on the Street: Robert De Niro portrays both the parts of Frank Costello and Vito Genovese. This is the first time De Niro plays a dual role in a film.
My Take: The film is directed by Barry Levinson, known for his films Diner (1983), the Academy Award-winning Rain Man (1989), Avalon (1991), and Bugsy (1992).

O’Dessa (2025)

Summary: O’Dessa takes place in a world where civilization was almost destroyed. In the ashes, a new city was born, ruled by a man named Plutonovich (Murray Bartlett), whose reign is filled with sorrow and hatred. A farm girl named O’Dessa (Sadie Sink) leaves home to make her mark. What she doesn’t know is that her music is destined to take down Plutonovich and restore order.
What to Watch For: The film is from Geremy Jasper, the director of the award-winning Patti Cake$.

My Take: Sadie Sink is best known for her role as Max on the TV series Stranger Things.

Bob Trevino Likes It (2024)

Summary: In Bob Trevino Likes It, 20-something Lily Trevino (Barbie Ferreira) needs to contact her self-centered father (French Stewart). She attempts to contact him online but gets in touch with another man with her father’s name, Bob Trevino (John Leguizamo). Due to that chance encounter, a relationship develops where the new Bob Trevino gives Lily encouragement, help, and guidance, something she has never been given by her own father.
What to Watch For: The film has been a tremendous success on the film festival circuit, winning both the Audience Award and the Jury Award at the 2024 Rome International Film Festival.
Word on the Street: Barbie Ferreira played Kat Hernandez in the TV series Euphoria and Nessie in the 2022 film Nope.
My Take: I love that the film is based on a true story.

Tyler Perry’s Duplicity (2025)

Summary: In Tyler Perry’s Duplicity, when high-powered attorney Marley’s (Kat Graham) best friend’s husband is gunned down by police, Marley goes on the offensive to make them pay. However, as she uncovers the facts, things show up that cause Marley to think there is more to the story.
What to Watch For: The film is written and directed by Tyler Perry.

My Take: I have been a fan of Kat Graham since her days on the CW show The Vampire Diaries.

My Take: Eiza González played Darling in one of my favorite films of the last ten years, Baby Driver (2017).

Misericordia (2024)

Summary: Misericordia begins when Jérémie (Félix Kysyl) returns to Saint-Martial for the funeral of his former mentor and boss. Jérémie’s stay in town soon becomes entangled with disappearances, threats, and shady dealings.
What to Watch For: The film is currently at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with over 20 film critic reviews.
Word on the Street: The film was placed at the top of the annual Cahiers du Cinemas’s top ten list for 2024.
My Take: The director of the film, Alain Guiraudie, is best known for his award-winning films Nobody’s Hero (2022), Staying Vertical (2016), and Stranger by the Lake (2013).

The Twister: Caught in the Storm (2025)

Release Date: Premiering on Netflix on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
Summary: The documentary The Twister: Caught in the Storm is about a rare EF-5 tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri in 2011. It happened on graduation day and the students attending thought they might not survive when they found themselves in the eye of the storm.
What to Watch For: The storm hit just minutes after the students received their diplomas. The storm killed over 150 people.

My Take: The tornado was the costliest in modern history, destroying over 8,000 homes.

Magazine Dreams (2023)

What to Watch For: Two-time Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins plays the man who has set the trap for Eddie.
Word on the Street: The film is a remake of the award-winning 2019 Argentina film 4×4.
My Take: Anthony Hopkins has worked on three films with Bill’s father, Stellan Skarsgård.

The Assessment (2024)

Summary: The Assessment takes place in the near future, where parenthood is strictly controlled, and prospective parents must go through a seven-day assessment. Mia (Elizabeth Olsen) and Aaryan (Himesh Patel) are not ready for the psychological nightmare that Virginia (Alicia Vikander), their assessor, is about to put them through.
What to Watch For: Alicia Vikander was nominated for Best Lead Performance at the British Independent Film Awards in November 2024 for her role in the film.
