Summary: In Shadow Force, Kyrah (Kerry Washington) and Issac (Omar Sy) were once the leaders of a multinational special forces group called Shadow Force until they broke the rules by falling in love and going underground. Years later, they are living a normal life in suburbia with a son. However, their cover has been blown, and now they must take on the group they once worked for to protect their family.
What to Watch For: The film is from Joe Carnahan, the award-winning director of Smokin’ Aces (2006) and The Grey (2011).
What to Watch For: Kerry Washington is best known for her Emmy-nominated role as Olivia Pope on the TV series Scandal.
My Take: I always like to point out that besides all her Emmy nominations, Kerry Washington is also the voice of Rayshelle Peyton on The Simpsons.
Juliet & Romeo (2025)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Summary: Juliet & Romeo is a musical retelling of the most famous love story of all time, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
What to Watch For: Clara Rugaard stars as Juliet, and Jamie Ward as Romeo. The supporting cast includes Jason Isaacs, Dan Fogler, Rebel Wilson, Rupert Everett, and Derek Jacobi.
Word on the Street: Production design of the film was done by three-time Academy Award winner (Hugo, Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Barber of Fleet Street), The Aviator) Dante Ferretti.
My Take: Timothy Scott Bogart’s brother, Grammy-winner Evan Kidd Bogart, composed the original soundtrack with help from Justin Gray.
Clown in a Cornfield (2025)

Summary: In Clown in a Cornfield, Quinn (Katie Douglas) and her father have moved to the small town of Kettle Springs, the once home of Baypen Corn Syrup Factory. It’s a town where the high school kids are counting down the days until they can leave, spending their time making prank videos and causing trouble. Their hi-jinks have awakened Frendo, the old clown mascot of the Syrup factory, and he is out to see that the kids are taught a lesson. A lesson that will end up in a grisly death or two.
What To Watch For: The film is from Eli Craig, the director of the award-winning cult favorite Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010).
Word on the Street: The film is based on the novel of the same name by Adam Durand.
My Take: I can’t wait to see this film. I am such a fan of Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.
Nonnas (2025)
Rating: PG
Release Date: Premiering on Netflix on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Summary: Nonnas is about Joe Scaravella (Vince Vaughn), who, after losing his mother, decides to open up a restaurant to honor her. His idea is to hire four Italian grandmothers, aka ‘Nonnas,’ as the chefs, using their authentic recipes. Have you ever heard of the phrase ‘too many chefs in the kitchen’? This might be the perfect example.
What to Watch For: The four Nonnas are portrayed by Lorraine Bracco, Brenda Vaccaro, Talia Shire, and Susan Sarandon.
Word on the Street: The film is based on a real-life Staten Island eatery called Enoteca Maria.
My Take: Between the four leading ladies, they have received 9 Oscar nominations, with Sarandon winning the Best Actress Oscar for her 1996 performance in Dead Man Walking.
Friendship (2024)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Summary: Friendship is about Craig (Tim Robinson), an ordinary man living in the suburbs with his wife, Tami (Kate Mara), and son, Steven (Jack Dylan Grazer). Craig’s world is changed when Austin (Paul Rudd), a local TV weatherman, moves into the neighborhood and invites Craig over to hand out with him and his pals. Things change when, after a few get-togethers, Austin tells Craig they ‘should go their separate ways.’ Craig then obsesses about how to get back in Austin’s good graces, and it won’t be pretty.
What to Watch For: Tim Robinson is known for his three-time Emmy award-winning TV series I Think You Should Leave with Time Robinson.
Word on the Street: The film was nominated for the Midnight Madness People’s Choice Award at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
My Take: The director of the film, Andrew DeYoung, directed a TV series that I loved, Miracle Workers.
Lilly (2024)

Release Date: In theaters on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Summary: Lilly is about Lilly Ledbetter (Patricia Clarkson), who endured constant mistreatment from her male coworkers while working at the Goodyear factory for 19 years. As she approaches retirement, she learns that the company has been paying her almost half what men in similar jobs are receiving. While outside forces attempt to keep Lilly quiet, she continues to pursue her case all the way to the Supreme Court.
What to Watch For: The film is based on a true landmark story.
Word on the Street: The film has been a massive hit on the film festival circuit, including Patricia Clarkson winning the John Cassavetes Award at the 2024 Denver Film Festival.
My Take: Lilly Ledbetter passed away just days after the film had its World Premiere at the Hamptons International Film Festival.
