Broadway Strike Talks To Resume
The lights could be back up on Broadway as talks to resolve the crippling
stagehands’ strike resumes.
Stagehands and producers have confirmed they will be locked in talks in New
York over the weekend (17/18Nov07) in a bid to get shows including The Lion
King, Chicago and Mamma Mia back up and running in time for Thanksgiving
(22Nov07).
More than 25 plays and musicals have been canceled due to a mass walkout by
disgruntled stagehands on Saturday (10Nov07).
The strike comes at one of Broadway’s busiest times of the year.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the forthcoming talks were “a very important
step forward,” and reiterated his willingness “to help resolve these
disagreements and let the shows go on”.
The last strike to hit Broadway was in 2003 when musicians walked out for
four days.
