Lohan Sparks Political Feud
Actress LINDSAY LOHAN has become the center of a political tug-of-war between
U.S. presidential hopefuls JOHN McCAIN and BARACK OBAMA.
Obama reportedly rejected an offer from Lohan – who, by her own admission, is
a reformed drug and alcohol addict – to host a campaign fundraiser in an effort
to rally support for his candidacy among young voters.
A source tells the Chicago-Sun Times the Democrat’s camp declined Lohan’s
offer because she “is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a
positive for us”.
And McCain has challenged his opponent’s judgement, with a spokesperson
telling celebrity website TMZ.com: “So let me get this straight – they turned
away Lindsay Lohan, but Barack Obama has friends like unrepentant terrorist
Bill Ayers and convicted felon Tony Rezko? Maybe LiLo is just too upstanding
for Barack Obama.”
Lohan recently slammed McCain’s running-mate, vice-presidential candidate
Sarah Palin, when she took to her MySpace.com blog and challenged her on her
take on gay rights.
Lohan says, “I really cannot bite my tongue anymore when it comes to Sarah
Palin. Is it a sin to be gay? Should it be a sin to be straight? Or to use
birth control? Or to have sex before marriage? Or even to have a child out of
wedlock?
“Is our country so divided that the Republicans’ best hope is a narrow
minded, media obsessed homophobe?
“Women have come a long way in the fight to have the choice over what we do
with our bodies… and it’s frightening to see that a woman in 2008 would
negate all of that.”
