Network Splits With Girlfriends

U.S TV show GIRLFRIENDS has been axed following a decline in audience figures.

TV network CW canceled the sitcom after a historic eight-season run last
week (ends15Feb08) after attracting just 2.1 million viewers.

Show creator/executive producer Mara Brock Akil says, “Although it’s always
difficult to say goodbye, I choose to focus my energy on the history that
Girlfriends has made, the human stories that we told, the beautifully complex
images that we projected and the blessings 172 episodes bestowed on us, both
personally and professionally.”

Last year (07), the show’s star Persia White blamed the color of her skin on
the show’s failure to entice U.S. audiences, admitting it could never compete
with Sex And The City.
