Mel Gibson Pleads No Contest To Spousal Battery

Mel Gibson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor spousal battery charge this past Friday.

Gibson’s plea was part of a deal that sentences him to 36 months of probation and 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling. The charged stemmed from the accusations made by ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, who reported that Gibson punched her in the head and face during an argument in January 2010 [at which time she claims to have been holding their child].

The accusation was followed by leaked recordings of Gibson yelling racist and sexist remarks at Grigorieva during their custody battle. Gibson also alleged at the time that Grigorieva tried to extort him, but the Los Angeles district’s attorney office said they found insufficient evidence to charge her.

Will we ever see the end of the Gibson versus Grigorieva drama/saga/tragedy? Can Mel Gibson ever re-invent himself as a respected actor after all of this?
