Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Review: Scouting For The Best Of Monsters

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Review

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 is an adventure-RPG style of game in which you set off to both fight against and scout monsters in which they will then fight for you. There are over 300 monsters in Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 of which you can collect and fight against. That’s 300 monsters that you can scout to your team and level them up in battle and then synthesis into a whole new monster.

In Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 you end up finding yourself on an Island of many mysteries and of course of many monsters. The game’s focus is heavily on it’s gameplay and all of the possibilities it creates for you though there is a decent story that comes along with the addicting gameplay. There are also some other characters that are of good interest as well that tie into the story. Of course though, it’s mostly just you on your quest for finding more monsters to scout and becoming the ultimate monster scout. The Island is pretty vast with many areas for you to explore and come across many of the different types of monsters. Each area presents itself with it’s own qualities and are fun to explore while there are a few areas I found to be more bland and boring. However, exploring and coming across the new areas is a fun adventure of its own. I found myself being curious about what would lay ahead and what kind of monsters I would run into next.

The battles are a lot of fun to fight in thankfully, as you will be fighting an awful lot. It’s key not only to scout your monsters, but before you can combine two monsters to make an even more powerful monster you must have them reach level 10. Therefore, you must fight a lot and gain that experience so that you may reach level 10 as quickly as possible if you want to synthesize those certain monsters. When the battles begin you have the option to either scout them or fight them. Once you select fight there is no changing your mind during the fight and you are stuck fighting them. Each monster you scout has their own abilities as well. As you level them up their attributes will increase with each level and every once in awhile you will get to add points to their skill sets. Each time that happens you will have a certain amount of skill points to use in which ever area you choose depending on the monster to increase those skill sets. That ranges from magic, attack power and defensive skills.

When it comes to synthesizing monsters you will select your two monsters of level 10 or higher to combine creating a whole new monster. The new monster will regain all of the original attributes and you can bring in which ever skill set you would like to make the new monster even more unique. It really is a fun process to be able to do this as you will eventually be able to create some very cool and unique monsters. This is where you will spend a lot of time being lost in the gameplay as you find certain monsters to level up and then synthesize into whole new creations.

Throughout the game you can save it almost at any time that you would like. You also have some scouting skills including an option that you can use to quickly move from one location to another, but only at certain points. However, the adventure is made a lot more friendlier as you don’t have to keep returning to your ship from certain areas and then walk the entire distance back and forth. There are also heal points throughout each area to that if you run across one you can use that to heal your entire party. You will also be able to go to the ship and purchase any material you may need such as weapons for your monster or medicine. However, you will be able to find those items in treasure chests scattered around the Island.

Visually each area that you visit looks pretty good and overall all the visuals in the game are absolutely great. The characters also look very good and it has some decent scenes for you to enjoy as well. The game certainly has a very good visual style going for it in which you should find yourself liking a lot. It also features a nice soundtrack for you to enjoy throughout the quest.

You can also play this against friends with local play or against others through a broadband connection via Nintendo’s Wi-Fi connection. You will be able to face other scouts and their team of monsters in a great battle and world tournament.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 is easily a game you can put hundreds of hours of gameplay into. It is a lot of fun to play and is very interesting throughout your quest. You can spend so much time just scouting and trying to synthesize together your perfect monster with the right abilities which will help you make the ultimate monster scout. There is also a monster scout arena for you to participate in which will allow you to take on monsters of different classes. Obviously the higher the class the better and you will need to be very far along to hang with the top classes. This is certainly a game to check out especially if you are a fan of RPG’s and you like to battle it out. It’s a lot of fun trying to scout for monsters and then creating your ultimate beast to fight with against the other monsters of the game. It can keep you busy for a very very long time, making this title easily worth the purchase.
