Opening Statement

I now know what it is that I have been missing out on. It’s an adventure that no one should miss!

Intro – About the game

I’ve now had my opportunity to play one of the Uncharted titles, that being Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. This being my first time going through the Uncharted series, I made sure to get some background information on the previous titles. Of course, given the chance I would say that everyone should play this series from the beginning. However, that not being the case for me, I didn’t feel as if I missed out on much. This is especially true considering the little bit of character info that I was given beforehand to help understand who the characters are.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception takes you on a great adventure searching for the “Atlantis of the Sands” as it’s told. Nathan Drake and company set out on the grand adventure taking them to many locations and putting them in some very tense situations that you will need to work your way out of. Every step of the way you will be entertained by this game as the adventure of it all is captured so very well and it certainly does put you on the edge of your seat. Whether you are climbing for survival or making a leap of faith to the other side, every step of the way you will feel the adventure and excitement of the situation.

The story telling for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is superb with very good presentation. There are a lot of great character moments as well that you’ll love as you make your way through this game. The characters really add to the enjoyment of the game and it’s story. Again, since I had not yet played this series before, it was still really easy to get into the characters and enjoy their story as well as their small talk.

Gameplay – AI – Controls

The gameplay really does a solid job of making the journey throughout this title feel truly adventurous. You’ll be climbing almost anything and everything, which the creators made sure to make a lot of fun also. It never got old for me and never did I find it uninteresting as in “why did I have to climb that?”. The game handles really well in this regard, but you may have a few moments of mistiming your jump or accidently pushing the drop button when there is nothing below to drop to.

The action sequences are a lot of fun as well, from fighting it out with your fists to using a number of different weapons. I wasn’t ready for as many fist fights as I had gotten myself into. I did eventually get use to it and they were a lot of fun to play out as it controlled really nicely. You’ll be throwing punches, doing your best to dodge them and then also tapping away at the circle button to get yourself out of situations when you are locked up with an enemy. I had a great time with the fist fights and I loved it when I had to get myself into those situations due to not having a weapon. There are some cool scenes that go along with the fighting as well.

The gun play handles just as well but the enemy can be very good with their shots. You’ll certainly need to be taking cover in almost all gun fight situations. Enemies can be a pain to bring down sometimes, especially later on as you deal with armored enemies that can simply just suck to deal with. In addition, if you get too close to someone with a shotgun you will be quickly dealt with. Shotguns are a beast in this game and you’ll need to be very careful when enemies get near you with one. Another thing you’ll have to be very careful with is enemies with explosives and RPG’s, as they can be pretty darn near perfect with their shots. That will make things very hard on you and might even force you to have to restart a few times.

I had to restart a number of times and the difficulty was slightly frustrating, but it was fun to fight my way out of those situations. The game’s AI is very good and can be very tough to handle at certain moments. They almost do too good of a job with their grenade throws and with their placement of their rocket launchers. You’ll have a tough but good time making your way through this title. No matter how hard the game can get, as you progress, you’ll continue to enjoy every moment of the adventure.

Sound – Graphics

You are presented with great visuals in regards to both character animations and your surroundings. As you find yourself in certain situations in the game you’ll really love what it has to offer visually. There may be some moments where there is so much going on that you don’t think about it at the moment, but the visuals also play a great part in your experience with this title. Musically it has a fairly decent soundtrack as well for you to enjoy. Voice acting is top notch with every character.

Online – Multiplayer

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception brings forth online multiplayer play in various modes including team deathmatch. You will be able to set up a player profile where you can customize your character’s look. You will also be able to edit your loadout, choosing which gun, pistol, boosters and medal perks you would like to run with. You will also be able to choose emblems and taunts. There is a ranking system that all the further customizations and perks will work with. So you will need to rank up to choose certain items. In addition to the rank system you will also need to earn money by playing games so that you can buy those items once you unlock them. In addition to online multiplayer, you can also play online co-op with up to 3 players.

Enjoyment Level – Fun Factor

My enjoyment with this game and the amount of fun I had with it was so very pleasing and fantastic. It had some most joyous situational moments in the story and gameplay that it will have you on the edge of your seat. You will definitely smile your way through some of the elements that this game bestows upon you. I loved the story, the characters, the adventure of it all and what each level brought to the game. It was certainly a fun experience.

Final Notes:

I took far too long to get into this series. If you haven’t played this title yet, I highly recommend that you pick it up. I figured I was missing out on a good game even though adventure titles are not always my favorite. I didn’t know I was missing out on a great adventure game that I would absolutely love.
