Bird Mania 3D Review: Quick and Addicting High Scoring Action

Bird Mania 3D
Nintendo 3DS eShop

Bird Mania 3D is one of the latest Nintendo 3DS eShop titles available for the nice price tag of $1.99. You can certainly see why it’s on the cheaper side, the game doesn’t have any depth to it. That’s not a bad thing when it comes to this title as it is made simply for arcade and high score action. The game provides you with only one endless stage to play through until you die. Once you die, you do it all over again and again…and again.

The goal of the game is to build up a high score. As you begin play you will be dodging trees while using a charge button to burst through enemy birds. Each time you burst through an enemy bird a multiplier will begin which helps your score. You will be collecting stars which is how you build your score. The more birds you charge through, the higher your multiplier will get meaning the higher your score will be. I really liked the scoring system and it’s certainly not as easy as it sounds. As you play through the stage it starts you out at a slow pace, but the further along you get the faster the pace will become making your movements even harder to control.

While the game is short it’s set up nicely and can be a lot of fun and very addictive, especially if you like challenging for high scores. They did add achievements for you to attain while you play through the game to give it something extra. I can tell you that a lot of those achievements seem very difficult to come by, so it’s not going to be easy on you at all. That’s a good thing though as it will keep you playing and the game does give you different goals to obtain each time you play. It also keeps track of stats such as how many stars you collected, balloons hit, birds hit, how high of a multiplier you got and your total distance traveled. All of those are nice stats and are displayed for you at the end of each game showing you what your total was for that game and also comparing it to your record totals.

I found myself to be very addicted to this title. It’s certainly not deep, but it’s a lot of fun to play through over and over again and it won’t get to tiring to fast. It’s also a title that is so easy to pick up and play at any time, especially if you only have a few minutes to burn which is about all the time it takes. The only major disappointment I have with this title is that, while it does keep track of your high scores on a leaderboard, there is no online leaderboard. That is just a huge mistake in my book, especially when it’s a game that revolves around high scores. It would make it that much more enjoyable to know that I am getting better scores than all of my friends. Besides that, at $1.99 you can’t go wrong picking up this title.
